Mancari named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week
Now in his fourth professional season after being drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2004, Mancari leads the entire AHL in points (22) and plus/minus rating (plus-14), tallying nine goals and 13 assists in just 11 games. He has totaled 71 goals and 107 assists for 178 points in 226 career AHL games with Portland and Rochester, and added one assist in three NHL games with Buffalo in 2006-07. A 23-year-old native of London, Ont., Mancari participated in the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic and set a league record by registering 102.8 mph during the Hardest Shot event at the annual Skills Competition.

ReplyIt's a nice start, but we're not quite ready for the 'Call up all three, trade X X and X' option.
ReplyAnother beneficiary of the offensive success is Enroth. He's the best rookie goalie in the AHL with Butler's old pla Mannino. Enroth gets to simply focus on the puck while these guys pile up points.
Would you guess at least 2 of the 3 are on the team next year?
ReplyI can see at least two here next season. RFA's Stafford, MacArthur, and Kaleta will re-up, while UFA Afinogenov is looooooong gone.
ReplyI think it's going to be tough for the Sabres to re-sign Kotalik, while I actually can see a beat-up Connolly and beat-upper Peters retained with reasonable, short-term deals unless a team swoops in and makes a ridiculous offer to either.
It's way too early to decode the Connolly situation, but it's never too early to talk about next season in general. This is a prospects site after all.
The one thing about Connolly that we should keep in mind is that the Miller and Pominville extensions kick in next season. I'm not sure how you afford him.
ReplyThe business plan with Gerbe and Kennedy (who will in the last year of atwo-year deal) occupying spots on the cheap seems more financially doable compared to the oft-injured Connolly eating up a multi-million dollar chunk of space.
I stated that before the season started, if Connolly got injured w/in the first two months of the season, I wanted him gone; and he missed the first month! I think since Kennedy's deal was only a 2 year deal, they may have planned it out so makes the team next year (if he played well enough). He's got two-way ability which we know Ruff likes.
Replymaybe you're right on it being too early to decide what to do about Connolly, i'll bite my tongue
