Sabres make play for Slava?

RussianProspects.com is reporting that the Sabres have extended a contract offer to 22-year old defenseman Vjacheslav Buravchikov (2005, 191st overall). The 6'1, 190-pound lefty collected four goals and 10 points this past season in the final year of his KHL deal. Russian Prospects feed:
Buffalo Sabres have once again extended an offer to the 22 year old Russian defenseman Vyacheslav Buravchikov (Buffalo Sabres). The club also reportedly offered the young defenseman an offer last summer, but at the time he was still under contract with HC Ak Bars. That contract is now over and Buravchikov is a free agent who is able to come to North America. Buravchikov has recently enjoyed several strong seasons in Russia with HC Ak Bars, this year earning the Gagarin Cup with his club.
The club's gesture likely marks the end of the road for free agent defensemen Mike Card, a 2004 pick who saw his past two seasons end due to concussions, and oft-injured Michael Funk.

Slava Kostka, Generous Persson, Brennan Schiestel, Grags Weber... there's gonna be significant changes on the Sabres' blueline. We'll see who and how many make the leap.

Well Myers will be in Buffalo, I think that's a given. I (anon 9:43) was mainly referring to what the situation would be in Portland. If they offered Slava a contract & he signs, Card and Funk will be gone, but someone else is gonna get bumped up. I don't see anyone getting packaged in a trade but that is possible. That makes things more interesting because many of us may finally get our wish and see Tallinder and Lydman moved.

Weber was injured and didn't shine at all during his callups last year, but I'd expect real improvement and I know we would all embrace the toughness he would add; Generous has great size and is pure shutdown; I think Kostka has a game similar to Butler; Grags really improved and can really move; Persson is a ?; and Brennan and Schiestel have at least a full year of grooming before we see them.

I think it's gonna look like:
Butler Rivet
Sekera Myers
Veteran Rookie
If they don't go out and get a free agent, I'm ok with them resigning Spacek or even finally taking a chance on Paestch. Just get Lydman and Tallinder off my team.

Lydman should not be dealt, but I'm fine with Tallinder being gone.

I'm excited about Buravchikov, have been since he got drafted. Huge, heavy shot, decent wheels [at least, at the time of the draft].

It's amazing the mix reaction there is about Myers playing here next year. Trading up one spot to get him means they think pretty highly of him. I really don't think the scale tips anymore to the WHL than it does to the NHL, unless he has a bad camp or preseason. I'm sure they don't want to rush him, but often logging up to 28 minutes of icetime, earning MVP and dominating in the playoffs (exluding games against Windsor in the Memorial Cup) is good enough for me.

Lydman did a good job hitting and blocking shots last year I'll give him that. It's also astonishing when he randomly becomes offensive, though we rarely see it. I use to dislike him more than Tallinder. Three years ago he had a problem with long pass giveaways, then the next year it was defensive zone giveaways, and last year he was still taking dumb penalties. There's always something that bugs me about him. I wouldn't be crushed if he stayed.

Don;t forget about Myers in the World Juniors! I think they will be keeping an eye on his weight and toughness before the season starts, but i can't see why he would choose to go back to juniors after pretty much going through it all last year: Playoffs, World Juniors, Memorial Cup

It looks like Card and possibly Funk will not be back, especially if they sign Buravchikov. It'd be interesting to hear if the kid has or is interested in signing....
