11/7 Recap: Lagacé loose and lively

Jacob Lagacé scored a goal and added three assists on Saturday as Chicoutimi thrashed Shawinigan, 7-0. Lagacé's linemate, Steve Lebel ('10), scored a natural hat trick in the second period to lead the Sags. Both players finished the night +4. Shawinigan's Maxime Legault saw his four-game point streak come to an end, finishing even with a minor penalty in the loss. Lagacé, who has scored a goal and five assists in two games since missing a week with concussion-like symptoms, now has 24 points (11+13) in 16 games. The output was his third four-point effort of the young season after hitting that mark just twice in all of 2008-09. In Halifax, Jordon Southorn was +1 as PEI lost to Halifax, 4-1. The defenseman has nine points (2+7) through 20 games for the Rocket (10-8-1-2). In the OHL, Peterborough captain Zack Kassian (-1) and Sudbury grinder Marcus Foligno were both held without points in the Wolves 2-0 shutout of the Petes. A lumbering Foligno did draw one penalty on an early breakaway, but was mostly quiet throughout. Despite going 4-6 in their last ten, the Petes remain atop the East Division with a 10-11 record. The Sudbury win vaults them into third place in the Central Division (8-11-0-1). In the NCAA, Brad Eidsness made 22 saves as #2 North Dakota closed the weekend sweep of Michigan Tech with a 4-1 win. The Chestermere, Alberta native moves his season mark to 5-1-1 to keep the Sioux locked in a three-way tie with Colorado College and Denver for first place in the WCHA. Sophomore blueliner Corey Fienhage did not dress for North Dakota. Nick Eno stopped 36 shots, but Bowling Green could not overcome a two-goal deficit in a 3-2 CCHA loss to Ferris State. Eno's gutty effort raises his save percentage to .897 and could see him get the Friday start next weekend against Fairbanks. The Falcons (0-7-1) and Dartmouth (0-3) remain as the only D1 programs without a win. In a surprising move, Connor Knapp watched for the second straight Saturday as #1 Miami took the broom to #4 Michigan, 5-1. Knapp was bogged down by a flu bug last weekend, but this week was held out because fellow sophomore Cody Reichard has been excellent this fall for the CCHA-leadng Redhawks. In fact, the sweep of the Wolverines at Yost was the first ever for Miami, and the first for a visiting club since 2001. Alex Biega was even with a shot on goal as Harvard lost at #5 Cornell, 6-3. The Crimson held a 3-1 lead through the first 30-minutes before allowing the Big Red to swarm for five unanswered goals to seal the victory. Mark Adams was even as Chicago was swept by Fargo, 3-2 in overtime. Undrafted Minnesota recruit Nate Schmidt scored the game winner for the Force. A 6'0, 197-pound defenseman, Schmidt was listed last June as a potdential fifth-round target in the SabresProspects draft preview. The pick was used to select Adams, who looks to be ramping up with Chicago despite being on the ice for the OT goal against.
