Team McClanahan takes inaugural All-American Prospects Game

Ryan Fitzgerald earned three assists Saturday to earn MVP honors as Team McClanahan rolled to a 5-2 win over Team Housley in the inaugural CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, NY. Five different scorers dotted the scoresheet for the winning side, while U.S. NTDP product Evan Allen scored both goals for Team Housley.

The two teams raced out to a good pace from the opening draw, generating chances at both ends while exhibiting an excellent physical tone for the 100+ scouts and 5,519 fans in attendance. The teams were deadlocked until Minnesota commit Hudson Fasching crashed the net for an easy tap-in of a Fitzgerald feed to open scoring at 15:54 of the first.

Portland Winterhawks rearguard Seth Jones would keep the momentum rolling for Team McClanahan in period two, sending a quick shot from the point to make it 2-0 a little over six minutes in. Team McClanahan would add goals by Nebraska-Omaha commit Jacob Montgomery and Quentin Shore (Denver) to take a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Allen would get his pair in the final twenty minutes, corralling a bounce off the end-boards at 6:08 and later banging in a Frank Vatrano rebound. In between Allen's strikes, Dakota Mermis (Green Bay) would step up and whistle a wrister underneath the crossbar for Team McClanahan's fifth and final goal.
