10/23 recap: Amerks impress "home" crowd with win over Bulldogs

Cody Hodgson connected for a goal and an assist Tuesday as the Rochester Americans rode a 36-save performance from David Leggio to a 3-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs at First Niagara Center in Buffalo. Joe Finley and T.J. Brennan added singles.

Finley opened scoring with a shot from the left point that was deflected on the way in past Bulldogs netminder Peter Delmas. After Michal Bournival beat late coverage to tie the game 1-1, Hodgson gave the Amerks their second lead of the night by following-up a nice individual effort to cash a second chance rebound. Brennan sealed the game on a late third period power play by bombing a one-timer from the point off a Hodgson feed.

Elsewhere, Logan Nelson added an assist to his season total as Victoria squeaked out a 4-3 overtime victory over Brandon. Nelson found Alex Gogolev with a long stretch pass midway through the third period to make it a 2-2 game. Nelson now has points in 10 of the royals’ 13 games for a line of 3-11-14.

Colin Jacobs assisted on the only Prince George goal as the Cougars were blown out by Spokane 6-1. Jacobs, who recorded a -4 rating in the loss, has eight goals and 16 points through the season’s first 13 games.
