11/16 Recap: Makarov magnificent

Andrey Makarov continued his stellar week of play Friday, stopping all 42 shots he faced to earn the game's number one star as Saskatoon blanked Prince George 4-0. Makarov, who was starting for the third time in as many nights following a sparkling performance for Team Russia at the Subway Super Series, earned his first shutout of the year. The Blades are at Vancouver on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Linus Ullmark made 24 saves as MODO J20 earned a 6-1 win over Djurgardens IF. Ullmark, who on Tuesday served as backup for MODO's Elitserien club, improved to 8-4 on the year with a 2.44 GAA and .902 save%.

In Finland, Joel Armia went without a point in Assat's 3-1 win over Ilves. The Aces battle JYP on Saturday.

Dan Catenacci posted a pair of assists as Owen Sound lost at London 5-2. Catenacci has collected multiple points in 12 of the Attack's 21 games this season for a line of 14-20-34.



Brady Austin picked up a roughing minor as Belleville was bounced by Oshawa 5-1. The Bulls will look to bounce back Saturday versus Plymouth.

Mikhail Grigorenko went without a point for just the second time this season as Quebec edged Shawinigan 3-2 in overtime. Grigorenko and the Remparts return to action Sunday at home against Victoriaville.

Logan Nelson posted one assist as Victoria pitched a 5-0 shutout of Everett. The Royals move on to face Regina on Saturday.
 


In NCAA action, sophomore defenseman Jake McCabe recorded a spectacular spinning assist as Wisconsin skated to a 2-2 tie with Minnesota. Brad Navin did not point for the Badgers, while fellow seventh-rounder Christian Isackson registered two shots for the Gophers. The two clubs will look to break the tie on Saturday.



Mark Adams remained out of the lineup as Providence pounded Northeastern 6-2.

In the USHL, Judd Peterson notched an assist as Cedar Rapids downed Sioux City 4-3. The RoughRiders are off until Sunday when they visit the U.S. Under-18 squad.

In the AHL, Phil Varone and Brayden McNabb lit the lamp but former Sabres prospect Paul Byron scored the game winning goal with eight minutes to play as Rochester lost to Abbotsford 3-2. Connor Knapp made 18 saves in his home debut to move to 0-2-0 on the year..
