12/1 Recap: Cat, Kea strike; Foligno earns KO in Amerks loss

Dan Catenacci notched a goal and an assist Saturday as Owen Sound scored late to earn a 2-1 victory over Sault Ste. Marie. Catenacci's multi-point outing ups his team-leading stat line to 17-25-42 through 28 games.


Justin Kea scored his eighth goal of the year as Saginaw hammered Ottawa 10-3. The strike gives the defensive-oriented Kea an even 20 points through 29 games this season. The Spirit close the weekend with a Sunday matchup versus Catenacci and the Attack.

Brady Austin saw his two-game point streak halted in Belleville's 3-1 loss to Kingston. The Bulls and Petes will tangle on Wednesday.

In AHL action, Brayden NcNabb and Alex Biega each scored goals as Rochester lost for the second straight game to Toronto 3-2 in overtime. David Leggio stopped 32 of 35 shots to to take the defeat. Rochester returns home Friday to square off with Adirondack for the third time this season.



In the WHL, Logan Nelson recorded an assist to extend his career-long point streak to nine games as Victoria edged Prince George 4-3. The Royals take a two-game winning streak into Wednesday's home ice tilt with Vancouver. Cougars forward Colin Jacobs served a suspension for a checking to the head penalty in Friday's loss to the Royals, and with the length to be determined, may be forced to remain out for Tuesday meeting with Moose Jaw.



Andrey Makarov stopped 37 of 40 shots but Saskatoon couldn't muster any offense in a 3-0 shutout loss at Red Deer. The loss ends the Blades short Alberta trip with a 1-1 mark. Saskatoon goes back at it Wednesday versus Spokane.

 In USHL action, Judd Peterson (-2) recorded two shots on goal as Cedar Rapids was dealt a 5-1 loss by league power Dubuque. Peterson has goals in two-straight games before the Saturday blanking. The Riders return to the ice Sunday against Des Moines.

Christian Isackson picked up an assist as Minnesota earned the weekend split with a 3-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha. Minnesota will complete the first half of the season next weekend with a WCHA series at Colorado College.

Jake McCabe (+1) and Brad Navin each registered a shot on goal as Wisconsin upset No. 5 Denver 3-1. The Badgers follow-up the three-point weekend with a home set versus Michigan Tech beginning Friday.

In Sweden, Linus Ullmark served as backup as MODO's top club dropped a 2-1 decision to Farjestads. MODO is off until Tuesday when they face Vaxjo.
