12/12 Recap: Cat survives cut; Austin continues roll

Dan Catenacci earned an assist Wednesday as Team Canada continued to craft their 2013 World Junior entry with a 4-1 loss to the University of Alberta. Following the game, Hockey Canada released five players (Sean Monahan, Tyler Graovac, Adam Pelech, Derrick Pouliot, and Francis Beauvillier), with eight more cuts coming on Thursday. As presumably one of the seven forwards fighting to fill three spots, Catenacci is safe for now but will have to put forth a strong showing in Thursday's final tilt with the University of Calgary Dinos if he wants to overcome the others.

In the OHL, Brady Austin got a low wrister to the net to earn an assist as Belleville pitched a 2-0 shutout of Ottawa. The helper is Austin's sixth point in his last seven games. The Bulls tangle with Oshawa on Friday.

In the USHL, Judd Peterson did not play as Cedar Rapids skated to a 3-1 win over Lincoln. The rookie forward was coming off a minus-three effort last weekend in a 3-0 loss to Muskegon. The RoughRiders return to the ice Friday Versus Sioux City.
