McCabe masterful as Americans advance

Jake McCabe continued his exceptional all-situations play at the 2013 World Junior Championship Monday, netting a goal and an assist as USA advanced to the quarterfinal round with 9-3 shellacking of Slovakia.

The mobile defender gave the Americans a 2-1 lead when he cut to the net and buried a backhand off a nice feed from John Gaudreau at 5:10 of the opening period.

McCabe, who saw the majority of his even-strength time with Seth Jones ('13), would later make a neutral zone pass to earn a secondary assist on Gaudreau's power play goal at 4:55 of the second period.

The victory gives the USA a third place finish in Group B. Their next opponent will be known after the completion of Group A's final round robin match between Finland and Sweden.
