1/25 Recap: Amerks victorious, head to break

Mark Pysyk earned the game's number one star Friday with a goal and an assist, and Brian Flynn scored off a skate for his third goal in as many games as Rochester entered the AHL All-Star break with a 4-2 doubling of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Kevin Sundher added a goal for the Amerks to give him four points (2+2) in his last five, while Adam Pardy secured the game winner.

Pysyk opened the Amerks' four-goal second period with nice play by legging the puck from his own blueline into the Penguins zone and beating Brad Thiessen to tie the game 1-1.

David Leggio was excellent with 23 saves in his 13th straight start for the Amerks, who snapped the Baby Pens' five-game winning streak.

With their teammates getting a break, Brayden McNabb and Kevin Porter will next head to Providence for the weekend's All-Star festivities. Rochester returns to action next Friday versus Toronto.

In the USHL, Judd Peterson scored a late power play goal as Cedar Rapids lost to Des Moines 3-2 in a shootout. The marker snapped a season-long five-game point drought for Peterson, who now has eight goals and 13 assists though 32 games.

 In NCAA play, Jake McCabe recorded a pair of power play assists as No. 20 Wisconsin downed Alaska Anchorage 5-2. The helpers give McCabe his third multi-point outing of the year. Brad Navin contributed a shot on goal for the Badgers, who appeared on the Top 20 rankings this week for the first time all season.

 Christian Isackson was unable to produce as No. 1 Minnesota was upset by No. 14 Minnesota State 2-1. The sophomore centered a unit with Seth Ambroz (CBS) and Jake Parenteau for the second consecutive weekend after bouncing between the top two scoring lines for the first half of the season.

 In the OHL, Dan Catenacci saw his six-game point streak come to a halt as Owen Sound lost a close one to Guelph 2-1. Catenacci has 14 points (8+6) and a plus-two rating in 15 games since being released by Team Canada back in mid-December.

 Justin Kea was unable to get on the score sheet as Saginaw continued their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Mississauga. The Spirit have won eight of their last 10 games, with Kea helping lead the way with six goals, 10 points, and a plus-seven rating in that span.

 In WHL action, Colin Jacobs notched an assist as Prince George blew a third period lead in a 3-2 loss to Everett. After a blazing start that his notch 13 points (7+6) in the first seven games of the season, Jacobs has produced 20 points (8+12) in his last 35 efforts for the next-to-last place Cougars.
