1/30 Recap: Cat seals win; Makarov comes up big

Dan Catenacci struck for a pair of goals Wednesday as Owen Sound toppled Eastern Conference leader Barrie 4-1. Catenacci scored on the power play early in the third period to give the Attack a 3-1 lead before adding an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the victory. The output gives Catenacci 27 goals, including nine on the power play, and a team-best 61 points through 49 games. The Attack are back in action Friday at Kitchener. Colts defenseman Alex Lepkowski continued his edgy play with three minor infractions in defeat.



Brady Austin tied a career-best by posting a plus-four rating as Belleville cruised past Kingston 8-2. The big, mobile defender has three goals, 15 points, and a plus-five rating through 44 games. The Bulls battle Sarnia on Saturday.

In the WHL, Andrey Makarov stopped 38 shots to guide Saskatoon to a 5-1 win at Brandon. The 6-foot-1 Russian held firm with several big stops in the third period to up his record to 19-16-0-3 with a 2.68 GAA and .915 save%. The Blades host Calgary on Friday.

Colin Jacobs (-3) earned an ejection after being the third man in on an altercation as Prince George lost to Tri-City 5-2. Jacobs jumped in to take on Jesse Mychan in the early stages of the third period for his second scrap in as many games.
