2/1 Recap: Makarov sets mark; Catenacci bags winner

Andrey Makarov stopped all 42 shots sent his way Friday to guide Saskatoon to a 6-0 pasting of Calgary. The history-making shutout, Makarov's sixth of the year, ties the Blades' single-season record. It also marked the eighth of his WHL career, breaking the Blades all-time record previously set by current Washington Capitals netminder Braden Holtby. Saskatoon looks for their fourth straight win Saturday versus Swift Current.



Colin Jacobs scored on a penalty shot as Prince George posted a 6-2 victory over Victoria. Jacobs' first career shorthanded conversion was his team-leading 18th goal of the year. On Saturday, the Cougars will again square off with the Royals, who will continue to go without Logan Nelson (lower body) for at least two more weeks.



In the OHL, Dan Catenacci scored the game winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation as Owen Sound edged Kitchener 2-1. Catenacci broke the tie with a power play strike to up his season totals to 28 goals and 62 points (9th in OHL) at the 50-game mark. Owen Sound will square off with division leader London on Saturday for their annual Pink in the Rink outing.



Justin Kea (-1) was unable to produce a point as Saginaw was doubled by Peterborough 4-2. 2013 draft eligible Jonatan Tanus scored his 10th goal of the year for the Petes, while fellow draft candidate Jimmy Lodge netted his 17th for the Spirit in defeat. The Spirit host Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday.

Alex Lepkowski posted a minus-two rating as Barrie scored  pair of third period goals to earn a 3-2 shootout win over Kingston. The Colts get a week off before taking on Plymouth next Friday.

In the NCAA, Jake McCabe was a plus-one and Brad Navin recorded two shots on goal as No. 19 played to a 1-1 tie with No. 7 North Dakota. The rugged affair featured 28 penalties for a total of 99 penalty minutes, with McCabe contributing with a roughing double minor and 10-minute misconduct. The teams will look to break the tie Saturday in Grand Forks.

In the USHL, Judd Peterson (-1) notched a shot on net as Cedar Rapids was shut down by Chicago 5-0. Losers of seven straight, the RoughRiders host Youngstown on Saturday.

In Finland, Joel Armia went without a point for the second straight game as Assat blanked the Pelicans 3-0. Armia, who punched five shots on goal in 16:24 of work, has 13 goals and 20 points through 35 SM-liiga contests.

In AHL action, Mark Mancari's hat trick guided Rochester to a 5-1 win victory over Toronto. Brayden McNabb tied his career-best with three assists, while Kevin Porter and Evan Rankin scored the other Amerks goals. Rochester hits the road for their next four games beginning with Saturday's tilt in Syracuse.
