2/26 Recap: Armia keys win; Makarov keeps streak alive

Joel Armia earned an assist on the game winning goal Tuesday as Assat extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 1-0 overtime victory over KalPa. With the game scoreless after 60 minutes, Armia set up on the power play early in the extra sessions and slung a wrister at the net that was tipped on its way past the KalPa netminder. Sitting in third place in the SM-liiga standings with just five games left to play, Assat will go for a dozen straight victories when they visit HIFK on Thursday.

Andrey Makarov stopped all 24 shots sent his way to earn his 16th-straight victory as Saskatoon blanked Red Deer 4-0. The shutout, Makarov's seventh of the season, sets a new team record for the Blades franchise. The winning performance ups Makarov's record to 33-16-0-3 with a 2.41 GAA and .924 save%. The Blades, who clinched a playoff berth with the win, will stay busy with a Wednesday visit to Calgary.

Nick Tarnasky scored a late goal but Rochester continued to struggle offensively in a 4-1 loss to Syracuse. David Leggio made 26 saves for the Amerks, who will look to snap a three-game losing streak Wednesday in Toronto.
