2/27 Recap: Makarov stands tall; Nelson strikes

Andrey Makarov stopped 41 shots and denied all five attempts in the shootout as Saskatoon edged Calgary 3-2. The win is Makarov's 17th in a row, marking the longest unbeaten streak for a Sabres goaltending prospect since Ryan Miller went 19-0-3 in 2000-01 with the Michigan State Spartans. After the game, the Saskatoon staff lauded Makarov for being the club's top player throughout the hot stretch. The Blades hope to continue their momentum Friday when they host Brandon.

Logan Nelson scored a pair of goals Wednesday and added a late assist as Victoria was defeated by Lethbridge 5-4. The three-point effort was Nelson's second of the year and first since Nov. 10, upping his season line to 10-25-35 through 40 appearances. Victoria is back at it Friday versus Spokane.

In the OHL, Brady Austin finished plus-one as Belleville won their 10th straight game 4-0 over Brampton. After overcoming Barrie a week ago Monday, the Bulls have opened up a six-point lead on the Colts for the top spot on the Eastern Conference standings. Belleville takes on Kingston on Friday.

In the AHL, Mark Mancari scored his 16th goal of the year and David Leggio made 37 saves as Rochester lost at Toronto 2-1. Mark Pysyk picked up an assist, giving the AHL rookie 15 points (4+11) through 49 contests. The Amerks will take a four-game losing streak into Saturday's tilt at Syracuse.
