2/9 Recap: Makarov great in eight

Reigning Vaughn CHL Goalie of the Week Andrey Makarov made 27 saves Saturday as Saskatoon earned their eighth straight victory 5-2 over Lethbridge. Makarov, who has backstopped all eight games of the Blades' streak, posted a  second-star effort to boost his record to 25-16-0-3 with a 2.52 GAA and .921 save%. The win came in front of a franchise record 12,588 fans who came out to celebrate the Credit Union Centre's 25th anniversary. Makarov and the Blades go for nine straight wins Tuesday at Swift Current.

Colin Jacobs did not factor as Prince George dropped a 4-1 decision at Vancouver. The Cougars begin a four-game road swing through Alberta on Wednesday with a tilt at Red Deer.

In the OHL, Justin Kea scored an empty-net goal as Saginaw defeated Barrie 5-3. The goal, Kea's 18th of the year, gives the big center points in two straight. Colts stay-at-home rearguard Alex Lepkowski picked up an assist to snap his 20-game point drought.

Brady Austin notched an assist as Belleville got past Erie 4-1. Austin now has points in two straight games for the second time this season. The Bulls visit Ottawa on Sunday.

Dan Catenacci finished with a season-low minus-four rating as Owen Sound was defeated by Plymouth 7-3. Catenacci added two penalties to his season haul, upping his league lead to 49 minors. The Attack are back at it Wednesday versus Guelph.

In college play, Christian Isackson registered one shot on goal as No. 1 Minnesota was handed a 4-3 loss at No. 10 St. Cloud State. Isackson, who was bumped up a line in the later stages of the third period, created traffic in front of the Huskies net on the third Gophers goal. Minnesota will face Wisconsin next weekend in a set that includes a Sunday outdoor tilt at the OfficeMax Hockey City Classic.

Brad Navin picked up a primary assist on the game's first goal as Wisconsin edged Bemidji State 3-2. The sophomore forward got deep on the forecheck and stole the puck from goaltender Mathieu Dugas before feeding it to Keegan Meuer for the easy goal. The Badgers were again without the services of top-scoring defender Jake McCabe (ankle).

In the USHL, Judd Peterson (+1) recorded two shots on net as Cedar Rapids earned a key road victory at Chicago 3-2. The Riders continue the playoff hunt with a Sunday visit to Green Bay.
