3/2 Recap: McNabb boosts Amerks; McCabe ends drought

In Saturday AHL action, Brayden McNabb scored on the power play with 10 seconds left on the overtime clock to give Rochester a 2-1 decision win at Syracuse. The win snaps the Amerks' four-game skid, giving Chadd Cassidy his first AHL coaching victory. Mark Mancari scored in regulation while David Leggio made 35 saves to earn his AHL-best 27th win. Rochester travels down the I-90 Sunday to Cleveland to take on Lake Erie.

In the NCAA, Jake McCabe rang up a goal, an assist, and a career-best plus-four rating Saturday as No. 16 Wisconsin dumped No. 13 Nebraska-Omaha 6-2 to earn the WCHA sweep. The tally, McCabe's third of the season and first since returning from the World Junior Championship, snaps the sophomore's 19-game goalless drought. Brad Navin logged a plus-one for the Badgers, who return to action Friday at St. Cloud State.

Logan Nelson picked up two assists as Victoria's winless skid hit nine games with a 3-2 loss to Spokane. Nelson has played inspired hockey over the past week, recording seven points in the last three games despite the team's woes to elevate his season totals to 12-27-39. The Royals visit Kamloops on Tuesday in what is currently lining up to be a WHL first-round playoff matchup.

In the OHL, Justin Kea (+1) notched an assist as Saginaw came up short in an 8-7 loss to Sarnia. The helper gives Kea 46 points (21+25) in 61 contests. Jimmy Lodge ('13) scored twice for the Spirit, who return to work Tuesday against in-state rival Plymouth.

Brady Austin finished with a minus-one rating as Belleville surrendered the overtime goal with just four seconds left on the clock in losing to Niagara 5-4. Carter VerHaeghe ('13) paced the IceDogs with a pair of goals including the game winner. The Bulls will look to erase a two-game losing streak Wednesday when they face Ottawa.

Dan Catenacci was held without a point for the third straight game as Owen Sound cruised to a 6-1 victory over Mississauga. Defenseman Chris Bigras ('13) notched a pair of assists for the Attack, who are off until Wednesday's tilt with London.

Christian Isackson (1 SOG) moved up to right wing on a scoring line with Nick Bjugstad and Kyle Rau as No. 2 Minnesota avenged Friday's loss with a 5-1 win over No.10 Denver. The Gophers finish off the regular season schedule next week with a set at Bemidji State.

In Finland, Joel Armia was held off the scoresheet as Assat won their 13th straight contest 1-0 over league front-runner Jokerit. Despite not scoring, Armia was still a key offensive component with four shots directed in 19:48 of work. The Aces, who sit in third place with three games left to play, are off until Thursday when they welcome JYP to town.
