3/20 Recap: Armia sets table; Ullmark big in defeat

Joel Armia made a nice pass to set up the game winning goal Wednesday as Assat kicked off the playoffs with a 2-1 victory over KalPa. The game was physical in nature, and Armia was excellent in using his size to win one-on-one battles and controlling the puck. With the game knotted at one, Armia took a puck at the half-wall and zipped a pass to a waiting Mika Niemi in the slot for the one-time finish at 7:48 of the third period. The Aces take a 1-0 series lead into Thursday's game two.

In SEL play, Linus Ullmark made 39 stops as MODO saw their season come to an end with a 1-0 overtime loss at Farjestads. Ullmark was superb through regulation, stopping everything throw at him before surrendering a goal high glove side 57 seconds into the extra session. MODO falls in the series 4-1 with Ullmark looking like a big part of the clubs' future, at least for the next two seasons with a contract running through the 2014-15 season. Ullmark will likely return to SuperElit play as MODO J20 continues their playoff round with Skelleftea on Friday..
