3/30 Recap: Nelson produces with season on line; Amerks rally

Logan Nelson stepped up in the third period Saturday, adding an empty-net goal to game-winning assist as Victoria doubled Kamloops 4-2 to stay alive in the WHL Western Conference quarterfinal series. The two-point outing gives Nelson two goals and six points in five post-season games, and a total of 17 points (8+9) in his last 15 tilts going back to the regular season. The Royals trail the series 3-2 with game six taking place Monday in Victoria.

In the OHL, Brady Austin was plus-two with a secondary assist as Belleville smoked Mississauga 5-0. Austin has three helpers and a steady plus-six rating for the Bulls, who take a 3-2 series lead into Mississauga for Monday's game six.

In AHL action, the Rochester Americans scored four unanswered goals in the final period of play to earn a 4-2 victory at Hamilton. Evan Rankin struck twice in the rally, while Matt Ellis and Jerome Gauthier-Leduc added  the other Amerks goals. Nathan Lieuwen earned the start, stopping 12 of 13 shots in the opening frame before a late-period collision caused him to watch the rest of the way. David Leggio came on in relief to close out his league-best 35th victory. The Amerks are back at home Friday when they host Lake Erie.

In the USHL, Judd Peterson was unable to connect as Cedar Rapids downed Youngstown 5-2. The St. Cloud State commit has collected an assist and eight shots on goal in four games since returning from an arm injury (missed five weeks). The RoughRiders visit Chicago on Friday.
