Sabres sign Schaller

The Buffalo Sabres are set to announce the signing of centerman Tim Schaller to an two-year entry-level contract. A native of Merrimack, NH, Schaller (6'2", 210 lbs.) recently completed his senior season at Providence College, scoring eight goals and 23 points in 37 games en route to being named Hockey East's Best Defensive Forward. Schaller, 22, will report to the Rochester Americans of the AHL on an amateur tryout (ATO), with the meter starting to run on his deal in the 2013-14 season.

A past attendee at development camps of the Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks, Schaller earned the contract thanks to his ability to provide timely offense while playing a responsible two-way game. The big-bodied pivot also provides aptitude at the face off circle, winning 56% of his 564 draws while wearing an "A" with the Friars this past season. Schaller played three years with the New England Jr. Huskies of the EJHL prior to attending Providence.
