9/27 Recap: Peterson's pair propels Riders in opener

Judd Peterson scored a pair of goals Friday as Cedar Rapids opened the USHL regular season schedule with a 6-3 doubling of Lincoln. The first-star effort was the second two-goal game for Peterson since joining the RoughRiders last fall. Cedar Rapids heads home for a Saturday tilt with Sioux Falls.

In other USHL action, Connor Hurley bagged two assists to help Muskegon to a 5-4 victory over Team USA U-17. The Lumberjacks are now 2-0 on the year heading into their home opener Saturday versus Indiana.

Cal Petersen stopped 32 shots as Waterloo came up short in a 3-2 loss to Dubuque. Seamus Malone ('14) notched three points for the Fighting Saints including the game winning goal with just under five minutes to play to regulation. The Black Hawks are off until next Saturday when they host Youngstown.

In the OHL, Justin Bailey notched a pair of secondary assists as Kitchener dropped a 5-4 decision to Peterborough. Draft eligible forward Nick Ritchie scored twice to pace the Petes. Next up for the Rangers is a Sunday visit to Oshawa.

Nick Baptiste secured one assist as Sudbury opened a three-games-in-three-nights stand with a 5-3 victory over Barrie. The Wolves will move on to face Owen Sound on Saturday.

Justin Kea picked up a power play helper as Saginaw lost at London 6-3. Knights defender Santino Centorame ('14) scored a goal and an assist while racking up a plus-four rating in the victory. The Spirit host North Bay on Saturday.

Brady Austin extended his point streak to three games with an assist as Belleville lost in the shootout to Mississauga 4-3. The Bulls host Niagara on Saturday.

In AHL preseason play, Colton Gillies scored the lone Amerks goal and Matt Hackett made 23 saves in a 2-1 loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Amerks open the regular season Friday at home versus Grand Rapids.
