10/12 Recap: Nelson pots winner; Florentino bags first

Logan Nelson scored the game winning goal Saturday with 1:17 left on the clock to guide Victoria to a 4-3 victory over Lethbridge. Nelson now has goals in four straight games. After sweeping the Hurricanes, the Royals will move on to face Prince George on Monday afternoon for a Canadian Thanksgiving Day tilt.



Justin Kea scored a shorthanded goal and added an assist, and Eric locke forced overtime with his second tally of the game with just 20 ticks left in regulation, but Saginaw dropped a 6-5 shootout decision to Erie. The Spirit visit Oshawa on Monday afternoon.

Justin Bailey picked up an assist as Kitchener was defeated by Plymouth 4-2. The Rangers will next host London on Monday afternoon.

In NCAA play, Anthony Florentino intercepted a clear and unloaded a slapper to score his first collegiate goal as Providence blanked Minnesota State 3-0. The Friars will take on American International on Saturday.



Jake McCabe recorded two shots on goal as Wisconsin edged Northern Michigan 2-1. Brad Navin again played a checking line role for the #3 Badgers, who'll head east next weekend for games vs. Boston College and Boston University.

J.T. Compher logged two shots on goal as #11 Michigan downed RIT 7-4. The Wolverines will pay a visit to #13 New Hampshire next weekend.

Christian Isackson was a healthy scratch as #5 Minnesota got past #13 New Hampshire 3-2 to take the 2013 Ice Breaker Tournament title. The Gophers will play a set at Bemidji State next weekend.

In the USHL, Connor Hurley scored his third goal of the year but was stopped in the shootout as Muskegon came up short at Green Bay 4-3. Hurley, who has seven points (3+4) through the Jacks first seven games, will look to keep the ball rolling Friday when Sioux Falls comes to town.

Cal Petersen was given the night off as Waterloo earned a 3-2 shootout victory over Tri-City. The Black Hawks will get back at it Thursday versus Omaha.

The game between Cedar Rapids (Judd Peterson - suspended) and Dubuque was suspended in the second period after Fighting Saints defender Dylan Chanter was severely injured following a fight. Chanter lost his helmet and fell backwards, hitting his head on the ice and dislocating his shoulder in the process. The player convulsed on ice for nearly two minutes before being taken away on a stretcher. The Riders will next play Thursday at Fargo.

In Sweden, Gustav Possler registered one shot on goal and was whistled for his first penalty of the year (diving) in MODO's 4-3 win over Farjestads. Linus Ullmark served as backup in the win. MODO plays at Brynas on Thursday.

In the AHL, Jamie Tardif scored his first goal of the year and Matt Hackett made 32 stops in Rochester's 5-1 loss at Syracuse. Nikita Kucherov notched his first career AHL hat trick to lead the way for Syracuse. The Amerks host Toronto next Friday.
