10/17 Recap: Petersen makes USA roster, backstops Hawks

Cal Petersen made 30 saves Thursday to backstop Waterloo to a 4-2 victory over Omaha. Petersen, who earlier in the day was named to Team USA for the upcoming World Jr. A Challenge, allowed two even-strength goals in the first seven minutes of play but settled in to shut the door the rest of the way to capture his fourth win in five season starts. The Black Hawks face Green Bay on Friday.

Also from the USHL, Judd Peterson logged a plus-one rating as Cedar Rapids pounded Fargo 7-1. The Roughriders visit Tri-City on Saturday.

In OHL action, Eric Locke picked up an assist as Saginaw was doubled by Sarnia 6-3. Justin Kea recorded a plus-one rating for the Spirit, who play a rematch with Sarnia on Saturday. Draft eligible winger Nikolay Goldobin paced the Sting with two goals and an assist.

In Sweden, Gustav Possler sat out with a minor injury and Linus Ullmark served as backup as MODO earned a 3-2 win over Brynas. Possler is expected to re-join the lineup Saturday when MODO hosts Vaxjo.
