11/2 Recap: Kea snags a pair; Nelson bags winner

Justin Kea scored a pair of first-period goals as Saginaw dropped a 4-3 decision to Sault Ste. Marie. The two-goal outing was Kea's first of the year after posting a pair five times in 2012-13. Eric Locke logged a minus-one rating for the Spirit, who next travel to Ottawa on Friday.


Elsewhere in the OHL, Nick Baptiste failed to record a point for the second-straight game as Sudbury doubled Sarnia 6-3. Undrafted 1994-born forward Nathan Pancel notched a hat trick and two assists to pace the Wolves attack, and up his season total to a league-best 19 goals and 26 points through 16 games. Sudbury completes a three-game weekend Sunday at Guelph.
 
In the WHL, Logan Nelson notched the game winning goal plus an assist Saturday as Victoria got past Red Deer 3-1.  Through 19 contests, Nelson leads the Royals offense with nine goals and 21 points. Victoria hosts Edmonton on Wednesday.



In college play, Brad Navin recorded his first goal of the year as Wisconsin pounded Lake Superior State 8-1. Jake McCabe (+1) contributed three shots on goal for the victorious Badgers. Wisconsin will have next weekend off to prepare for a two-game road set Miami on Nov. 15 and 16.

Anthony Florentino picked up a power play assist as Providence downed Boston University 3-1. The Friars play a home-and-home Hockey East set with Merrimack starting on Friday.

JT Compher played even as Michigan defeated Michigan Tech 2-1. The Wolverines are off next week before visiting Nebraska-Omaha the following weekend.

Sean Malone finished with a minus-two rating as Harvard lost to Union 4-2. The Crimson will battle St. Lawrence on Friday.

In the USHL, Judd Peterson registered an assist as Cedar Rapids edged Muskegon 3-2. The St. Cloud State commit has earned a point in five of nine games this season for the RoughRiders, who will again play a road game art Muskegon on Wednesday.

Connor Hurley recorded an assist and goaltender Cal Petersen stopped four of five shots while playing the front half of the game as the U.S. Junior Select Team rallied for a 4-3 exhibition win over Canada West 4-3 in preparation for the World Junior A Challenge. The Americans begin tournament play Tuesday versus Russia in Yarmouth, N.S.

In the ECHL Connor Knapp stopped 41 of 45 shots as Greenville was topped by Wheeling 5-3.

Andrey Makarov allowed two goals on 30 shots in Fort Wayne's 2-1 loss at Las Vegas. Shawn Szydlowski (3 SOG) was minus-one for the Komets.
