In Saturday action, Brad Navin scored a goal and an assist in regulation, then added
another helper on the overtime game winner as No. 15 Wisconsin defeated
Colorado College 4-3. The three-point night was a career-best for the
third-year Badger, and his first multiple-point outing since a one-goal,
one-assist effort Dec. 10, 2011 versus Minnesota-Duluth. Jake McCabe recorded two shots on goal for the Badgers, who head to holiday
break before returning for a two-game set against Alabama-Huntsville
Dec. 27 and 28.
In Sweden, Linus Ullmark made 21 saves and Gustav Possler recorded an assist as MODO doubled Leksands 6-3. The decision gives Ullmark eight wins in 18 starts while amassing a 2.05 GAA (3rd in SHL) and .933 save% (2nd). With the SHL off to break, the talented netminder will join Team Sweden for the Channel One Cup Dec. 19-22. Possler, who enters the break as MODO's co-leader in points with 15 (8+7) will head to Sweden's National Junior Team training camp in preparation for the IIHF World Junior Championship beginning Dec. 26.
In OHL play, Brady Austin scored his fifth goal of the year as London lost a 4-3 shootout decision to CHL top dog Erie. The Knights get back to work Sunday versus Kingston and the talented 2014 draft trio of Sam Bennett, Spencer Watson, and Roland McKeown.
Justin Kea picked up an assist as Saginaw was defeated by Kitchener 5-1. Justin Bailey did not get on the score sheet for the Rangers, while draft eligible forward Darby Llewellyn scored a pair to give him 18 goals through his first 30 games. The Rangers continue their road trip Sunday at Sault Ste. Marie, while the Spirit are off until Friday when they host Windsor.
In the USHL, Cal Petersen came on in relief early in the middle frame and stopped
21 of 22 shots to backstop Waterloo to a 6-4 come-from-behind win over
Team USA. Petersen heads home for the holidays with a 13-2-1 record,
2.60 GAA, and a .918 save%. The Black Hawks host Chicago on Dec. 27.
Connor Hurley went without a point as Muskegon dropped a 6-4 decision at Chicago. Hurley, who has registered zero goals and seven assists in his last 14 contests, will look to heat up when the Lumberjacks resume the USHL schedule Dec. 29 versus Youngstown.
Judd Peterson logged a minus-three rating as Cedar Rapids took a 5-1 hammering from Indiana. Peterson heads to the break as the RoughRiders third-leading point-getter with 16 (10+6) through 22 appearances. Cedar Rapids returns to work Dec. 27 at Des Moines.
In the ECHL, Andrey Makarov turned away 34 of 35 shots to earn the game's number two star as Fort Wayne downed Kalamazoo 4-1. The Russian rookie has won eight of his first 13 pro starts, racking up a 2.85 GAA and .910 save% along the way. Shawn Szydlowski produced an assist for his first point in a Komets uniform. Fort Wayne continues the schedule Sunday when they welcome Evansville to town.
Jonathan Parker notched an assist as Colorado edged Las Vegas 4-3 in overtime. The Eagles outshot the Wranglers 21-1 in the opening period en route to a 50-22 overall advantage. Colorado is off until Friday when they visit San Francisco.
In the AHL, Nathan Lieuwen made 26 saves to earn the game's number three star but Rochester couldn't muster any offense in a 1-0 shutout loss at Syracuse. Johan Larsson posted five of the Amerks' 27 shots, while Jerome Gauthier-Leduc and Phil Varone each chipped in three. The Amerks host rival Toronto on Wednesday.
