1/31 Recap: Nelson doubles up; Hurley keeps streak

Logan Nelson posted his second two-goal game of the season Friday to earn the number two star as Victoria lost to Vancouver 5-4 in a shootout. Nelson, who upped his season take to 38 points (15+23), has goals in two consecutive contests heading into Saturday's rematch with the Giants.



In the OHL, Eric Locke produced a goal and an assist as Saginaw rolled past Belleville 7-0. The Spirit captain has points in 12 of 15 games since returning from a six-week injury absence. Justin Kea missed his third game with an unspecified injury. Saginaw hosts Kingston on Saturday.

Justin Bailey scored his 19th goal of the year as Kitchener couldn't hold a late lead in a 6-4 loss to Barrie. The goal snaps Bailey's four-game goal drought. The Rangers visit Niagara on Saturday.



Nikita Zadorov and Brady Austin each finished with a plus-one rating as London defeated Sudbury 3-2. Red hot forward Nick Baptiste took a high hit and left the game after the first period. He'll be re-evaluated Saturday prior to the Wolves visit to Sault Ste. Marie.

Mikhail Grigorenko (-1) went without a point in Quebec's 6-4 loss Blainville-Boisbriand. The Friday loss was the second zero-point effort for Grigorenko in his six games back in junior. He'll look to get back on the score sheet Tuesday when the Remparts face Baie-Comeau.

In the USHL, Connor Hurley notched an assist to extend his point streak to 10 games as Green Bay earned a 3-2 victory at Lincoln. The 18-year old has 13 points (7+6) in 12 games in a Gamblers uniform. He had previously amassed 14 points (3+11) in 21 games with Muskegon prior to the trade.

Judd Peterson produced a pair of assists as Cedar Rapids held on for a 3-2 triumph over Sioux Falls. Peterson has six points in his last five games heading into Saturday's tilt with Green Bay.

Cal Petersen made 22 saves as Waterloo outshot Muskegon 52-23 en route to capturing a 5-1 win. Petersen now has 22 wins (1st in league) with a 2.34 GAA (4th), and .919 save% (4th). Waterloo takes on Sioux City on Saturday.

In the NCAA, J.T. Compher (3 SOG) notched an assist as Michigan got past Wisconsin 3-1. The helper gives Compher points in 13 of his first 21 games as a collegian. Third-year Badgers Jake McCabe (-3) and Brad Navin (-1) has quiet nights, but will look to change that around when the teams close the B1G set on Saturday.



Sean Malone picked up an assist in a top line role as Harvard withstood a late surge to hold off Princeton 3-2. Malone has points in three of his last four games. The Crimson open the 62nd Beanpot Tournament Monday versus Northeastern.

Christian Isackson logged a minus-one rating as Minnesota played to a 2-2- tie with Michigan State. The teams will do it again on Saturday.

Anthony Florentino (-1, 1 SOG) returned from a five-game injury absence as No. 7 Providence was blanked by Boston College 2-0. The Friars are off until Feb. 11 when they take on Connecticut.

Four players - Colton Gillies, Brayden McNabb, Alex Hutchings and Kevin Sundher - scored their fifth goals of the year to guide Rochester to their sixth-straight victory 4-1 over Rockford. Matt Hackett made 23 savesto earn his 12th win of the year, while Mark Pysyk picked up two assists to earn the game's number one star. Joel Armia returned to action after missing the previous five games. The Amerks are at Wilkes-Barre Scranton on Saturday.
