10/12 Recap: Fasching cashing; Cornel scores

Hudson Fasching deflected a shot for a goal for the second straight game Sunday as No. 1 Minnesota won their second consecutive Ice Breaker Tournament with a 3-0 win over RPI. The sophomore winger how has three points in his first two games while skating down the right side of the Gophers’ top forward line. Christian Isackson produced one shot on goal for the Gophers, who take a week off before hosting Bemidji State for a non-conference set.

In the third place game, Cal Petersen stopped 26 of 29 shots in his collegiate debut as No. 13 Notre Dame was blanked by Minnesota-Duluth 3-0. Connor Hurley also made his first appearance for the Irish as the club's third-line center. Notre Dame hosts Lake Superior State this weekend for a pair of nationally televised contests on NBC Sports Network.

In the OHL, Eric Cornel scored his third goal of the season as Peterborough was doubled 6-3 at Saginaw. The crafty winger has contributed three goals in his last three games to push his point total to six through the season’s first six games. The Petes host Sarnia on Thursday.

In QMJHL action, Vaclav Karabacek finished with three shots on goal as Gatineau won at Chicoutimi 5-2. Karabacek has three goals and five assists through nine games with the Olympiques. Gatineau hosts Blainville-Boisbriand on Friday.
