10/16 Recap: Cornel blanked; U18s hang tough

Eric Cornel was held off the score sheet Thursday as Peterborough was bested by Sarnia 5-3. Cornel earned some prime chances, including two on back-to-back shifts late in the first period that saw him clang a post and get stopped down low. He also manned the left point on the Petes' top power play unit. Draft eligible Nikita Korostelev scored for the Sting, giving the winger eight points (4+4) in his last three games, while 2016 horse Jakob Chychrun added a goal to give him seven points (3+4) in his first eight OHL tilts. Cornel, who has six points (3+3) through seven games, gets back to work Saturday versus Plymouth.

In an NCAA recruiting exhibition, Anthony Florentino recorded one shot on goal and a minus-two rating as No. 5 Providence played to a 3-3 tie with the USA Under-18 Team. Troy Terry (Denver), Casey Fitzgerald (Boston College) and Jeremy Bracco (Boston College) scored for the U18s.  Senior defenseman Mark Adams finished with an even rating for the Friars, who hit the road next weekend for a set with No. 3 North Dakota.
