World Junior Video Notes: Day 1

I just wanted to take a moment and post some quick video notes from Friday's World Junior action. Full coverage for all Sabres prospects involved can be found at Sabres.com at the conclusion of each day of games.

If you missed it earlier, you may want to take a minute to watch Jack Eichel's assist in USA's 2-1 shootout victory over Finland.

He's pretty good. In addition to the helper, Eichel also came in with a burst of speed to score as USA's first shooter in the "game winning shots" to decide the extra point.

Hudson Fasching was highlighted during the first intermission for his work with Detroit prospect Dylan Larkin, as their line put together some excellent shifts early to help settle down the Americans after falling into an early 1-0 hole.

Fellow American forward JT Compher was unable to get on the score sheet, but put forth a strong two-way effort in his fourth-line role to help the Americans to victory.

More to come at Sabres.com.

Sam Reinhart had a solid first outing as Canada stomped Slovakia 8-0. The assistant captain posted two assists and helped generate several other chances as the Canadians fired a warning shot the let the other teams know that they're ready to compete.

For those wondering, Connor McDavid did not factor in on any of the eight Canada goals. 1-0 Eichel?

In Group B, Victor Olofsson missed on a pair of prime opportunities in the second period of Sweden's 5-2 victory over the Czech Republic. Olofsson worked in a fourth-line capacity at even strength while seeing bonus time on the Swedes' second power play unit.

Action continues on Saturday with Canada taking on Germany. Sweden gets back to work versus Denmark. Team USA gets a day off before Sunday's battle with the Germans.
