2/5 Recap: Bailey hits milestone

Justin Bailey scored his 30th goal of the year Thursday and added an assist as Sault Ste. Marie dropped a wild 8-6 decision at Niagara. Bailey made it a 3-2 game at 12:04 of the opening period when, while on the penalty kill, he came in with Darnell Nurse (EDM) on a two-on-one rush and slid a low shot underneath the goaltender from the slot area to hit the 30-goal mark for the first time in his OHL career. The Greyhounds loss was their first in 11 games since acquiring Bailey from Kitchener. Soo forward Jean Dupuy missed his second game with an unspecified injury.

Eric Cornel contributed a pair of assists as Peterborough was hammered by Guelph 9-4. Cornel, who earned helpers off a diving power play feed to the top of the box and a shot attempt that was tipped at the side of the net, has 39 points (12+27) in 46 games this season, including nine in his last seven.

Brendan Lemieux (-1) was unable to connect as Barrie handed Kingston a 3-2 shootout loss. Through 44 games, Lemieux has captured 33 goals and 47 points with 20 of his markers coming while on the man advantage.

On Wednesday, Anthony Florentino finished with a minus-two rating as Providence played to a 2-2 tie with Connecticut. The sophomore rearguard has collected seven points in his last nine games, accounting for more than half of his season total of 11 through 26 contests.

Vaclav Karabacek logged one shot on goal as Baie-Comeau earned a 3-2 victory over Blainville-Boisbriand. Karabacek has just five points in 12 games with the Drakkar since January 1.
