Malone scores, nearly gets another in Beanpot loss

Sean Malone returned from a six-game absence Tuesday with his third goal of the year as Harvard was defeated by Boston University 4-3 in double overtime at the 2015 Beanpot Tournament. Malone lit the lamp at 8:28 of the second period when a puck bounced out to the high slot for the unassisted finish to make it a 3-1 game.

After the Terriers rallied for a pair of goals to knot the score at 3-3 entering the third period, Malone nearly added his second of the night when he jammed the crease off a faceoff midway through the third period. With Malone on top of the goalie, two Harvard players whacked at the puck and it appeared to cross the line as it rested on Malone's back, but the play was ruled no goal.

Malone has played in just four of the Crimson's 20 contests this year, but has been an all-around force en route to posting six points and 12 shots on goal. Harvard will visit Yale and Brown over the weekend before facing Boston College next Monday in the Beanpot consolation game.

In the AHL, Daniel Catenacci scored the game-winning goal early in the final frame as Rochester earned a 3-2 victory at Chicago. William Carrier (1st star) and Phil Varone (2nd star) each had a goal and an assist for the Amerks while Andrey Makaorv stopped 23 of 25 shots to earn the game's third star.
