3/13 Recap: Malone extends streak; Compher exits early

In Friday ECAC quarterfinal action, Sean Malone streaked in from center ice to score his seventh goal of the season as Harvard earned a 3-2 victory at Yale. The marker gives Malone 17 points in 16 contests, including points in six straight. The Crimson look to close out the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Jason Kasdorf stopped 33 of 34 shots as RPI was blanked 1-0 at St. Lawrence. The Engineers will look to stave off elimination when the series resumes on Saturday.

In the Hockey East playoffs, Cal Petersen allowed five goals on 17 shots before being replaced for the final frame as Notre Dame was blanked at Lowell 5-0. Connor Hurley recorded one shot on goal for the Fighting Irish, who need a win Saturday to keep their season alive.

Anthony Florentino picked up an assist as Providence opened the quarterfinal round with a 2-1 overtime loss to New Hampshire. The helper snapped Florentino's eight-game point drought.  Mark Adams did not play for the Friars, who'll look to even the quarterfinal matchup when the teams reconvene on Saturday.

Judd Peterson recorded two shots on a goal as St. Cloud State opened the NCHC playoffs with a 2-1 double-overtime win over Nebraska-Omaha. Peterson, who did not play in three of the Huskies' last five tilts, has six points (3+3) in 32 games.

In the B1G, Brad Navin scored twice as Wisconsin played to a 2-2 tie with Ohio State. The goals, Navin's first since Oct. 18, give the senior captain eight points (3+5) in 33 games this season.

JT Compher notched one assist to extend his point streak to five games before leaving the game with an upper-body injury as Michigan downed Michigan State 5-3. Late in the opening period, Compher played a puck along the right boards and spun to avoid a hit. Contact was made as he turned, sending his head and shoulders into the boards. The Wolverines can clinch the regular season title with a win on Saturday.

Hudson Fasching produced one goal and one assist as Minnesota spanked Penn State 5-0. The multi-point night puts Fasching at 10 goals and 21 points entering the final game of the regular season on Saturday. Gophers forward Christian Isackson produced one shot on goal in his fourth-line role.

OHL

Eric Cornel was held off the scoresheet as Peterborough was defeated by Sudbury 3-1. The Petes hold a five-point lead on Mississauga for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot with four games left to play.

Jean Dupuy finished with an even rating as Sault Ste. Marie got past Plymouth 5-1. The Greyhounds continued to miss Justin Bailey, who has been out the last three weeks with a fractured ankle. The Hounds are hoping to have the high-scoring winger back in action for the conclusion of the regular season schedule next weekend.

WHL

Sam Reinhart scored his 18th goal of the season as Kootenay blew past Medicine Hat 7-1. The marker gives the ICE captain 59 points in 43 games.

Brycen Martin finished with a plus-one rating in Saskatoon's 4-1 loss to Brandon. Through 68 games, Martin has collected seven goals and 38 total points.

QMJHL

Vaclav Karabacek was not hurt but did not play as Baie-Comeau doubled Rimouski 4-2. Karabacek has 16 goals and 39 points in 56 games this season.

USHL

Christopher Brown logged one shot on goal as Tri-City lost to Lincoln 4-3. The Boston College commit has four assists in his first six games with the Storm.

AHL

Kevin Sundher scored his first goal of the season and Mikhail Grigorenko added his 12th as Rochester was doubled by Hamilton 4-2. Andrey Makarov stopped 28 shots to take the loss.
