3/14 Recap: Fasching steps up as Gophers snag title

Hudson Fasching struck for two goals and a career-high four points Saturday as Minnesota cruised past Penn State 6-2 to earn the Big Ten regular season title. Fasching heads into the conference tournament with plenty of momentum, scoring goals in each of his last two games while getting points in eight of his last 11. The budding power forward has 12 goals and 25 points in 35 contests. Senior forward Christian Isackson recorded one assist for the Gophers, who will face one of Penn State or Ohio State on Friday in the tournament semifinals.

Elsewhere, Cal Petersen made 25 saves and Connor Hurley netted one assist as Notre Dame downed Lowell 4-2 to force a Sunday rubber match to settle the Hockey East best-of-three quarterfinal series. The win improves Petersen to 13-15-3 with a 2.37 GAA and .924 save%. Hurley's helper gives him points in two of his last three games.

Defensemen Anthony Florentino (2 SOG) and Mark Adams (-1) were kept off the scoresheet as Providence hung on for a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire. The Friars will look to score the knockout blow Sunday when the teams settle the Hockey East quarterfinal series.

Sean Malone saw his six-game point streak snapped as Harvard fell to Yale 2-0. The speedy sophomore has seven goals and 17 points in 17 games with the Crimson. He'll want to start another streak Sunday as the Crimson look to keep keep their season alive with deciding Game 3.

Jason Kasdorf saw his ECAC season come to an end with a 22-save performance as RPI was rolled by St. Lawrence 5-1. The redshirt sophomore completes the year with an 11-19-2 record, 2.97 GAA and .902 save%. He started 33 of the Engineers' 41 games.

Freshman winger Judd Peterson registered one shot on goal as St. Cloud State advanced to the NCHC semifinal round with a 3-1 win at Omaha. The Huskies return to work on Friday versus a yet-to-determined opponent.

Brad Navin finished with two shots on goal as Wisconsin was shutout by Ohio State 2-0. The Badgers finish the regular season with five shutout losses in their final seven games.

JT Compher did not play due an injury sustained in Friday's contest as Michigan closed the regular season schedule with a 2-1 loss to Michigan State. His status for Friday's Big Ten playoff tilt versus Wisconsin has yet to be determined. He scored 11 goals and 23 points in 31 games prior to getting hurt.

CHL

Sam Reinhart had a quiet night as Kootenay claimed a 4-2 win at Red Deer. The ICE captain has failed to gain a point in three of four games. That hasn't had happened to Reinhart in regular season play since December of 2012.

Brycen Martin logged a minus-one rating in Saskatoon's 3-1 loss to Brandon. Martin has cooled down the stretch, collecting one assist in his last 11 outings.

Nick Baptiste (-1) did not get in on the scoring as Erie got past Windsor 4-1. Baptiste enters the final four games of the regular season with 29 goals and 61 points.

Eric Cornel (-1) was shut out as Peterborough was blanked by Barrie 3-0. The Petes leading scorer with 52 points (14+38), Cornel has failed to get on the scoresheet in three straight games and has just two goals in his last 20.

Jean Dupuy notched one assist as Sault Ste. Marie doubled Sarnia 6-3. The power-play helper gives Dupuy 44 points (17+27) in 53 games.

Vaclav Karabacek (+1) recorded one shot on goal as Baie-Comeau was defeated by Rimouski 4-3. Karabacek has no goals in his last eight games and just one in his last 10.

USHL

Christopher Brown picked up one assist as Tri-City earned a 5-3 victory at Omaha to slide into first place in the Western Conference standings. The Boston College commit has five assists in seven games since being acquired by the Storm.
