3/28 Recap: Bailey strikes twice as Soo rolls

Justin Bailey scored a pair of goals Saturday to earn the game's second star as Sault Ste. Marie blasted Saginaw 8-2. Bailey has three goals in the first two games of the playoffs, both wins by the Greyhounds. Soo forward Jean Dupuy remained out of the lineup with an upper-body injury. The Hounds take a 2-0 series lead into Tuesday's Game 3 at Saginaw.



QMJHL

Vaclav Karabacek registered three assists to help Baie-Comeau to a 4-1 triumph over Saint John in Game 2 of their quarterfinal series. Karabacek's second-star effort gives him four helpers through the first two playoff games for the Drakkar, who lead the series 2-0 entering Game 3 on Tuesday.

NCAA

Anthony Florentino cleared the zone in the final minute to earn an assist on an empty-net goal as Providence held on for a 7-5 win over Miami. The helper gives him 13 points (2+11) in 37 games. Fifth-year senior defender Mark Adams finished with a plus-one rating for the Friars, who advance to Sunday's East Regional Final against  Denver.

Sean Malone (-1) logged one shot on goal as Harvard was defeated by Omaha 4-1 in the Midwest Regional Semiinal. Malone's sophomore campaign ends with eight goals and 18 points in 21 appearances with the Crimson.

Judd Peterson produced one shot on goal as St. Cloud State was defeated by North Dakota 4-1 in the West Regional Final. Peterson ends his first collegiate season with four goals and seven points in 37 games.

SWEDEN

Victor Olofsson (4 SOG) recorded one assist as MODO J20 was eliminated from the playoffs with a 4-3 loss to Frölunda HC. Olofsson, who on Friday notched one goal and one assist in a 6-4 MODO victory, completes the postseason with five goals and eight points in five contests.

USHL

Christopher Brown contributed one shot on goal as Tri-City lost at Fargo 2-1. Brown has now gone 17 games without scoring a goal.

AHL

Andrey Makarov stopped all 32 shots sent his way for his third shutout of the year as Rochester earned their second straight victory with a 2-0 blanking of Syracuse. Daniel Catenacci scored an empty-net goal and added one assist to give him points in two straight games for third time this season.
