Judd Peterson recorded an empty-net goal plus assist to help St. Cloud State to a 3-0 victory over Minnesota State. The late goal gives the sophomore forward a team-best three on the year. Defenseman Will Borgen (+1) punched one shot on goal for the Huskies, who hit the road next weekend for a set at Quinnipiac.
In State College, Cal Petersen made 34 saves as Notre Dame fell to Penn State 5-3. It was a battle of former teammates, with Petersen's former Waterloo Blackhawks goaltending partner Eamon McAdam (NYI) making 30 stops at the other end of the ice. Fighting Irish centerman Connor Hurley notched one shot on goal in defeat. Notre Dame welcomes Minnesota-Duluth to town next weekend for a pair of non-conference contests.
Hudson Fasching (-1) recorded one shot on goal as Minnesota was swept by Minnesota-Duluth 3-0. Fasching has yet to record a point this season for a Gophers club that has opened the season with three straight losses. Minnesota will look to figure a few things out in preparation for next weekend's home set against Northeastern.
In Sweden, Gustav Possler supplied four shots on goal in 18:06 work as MODO was blanked 1-0 by the Malmo Redhawks. Victor Olofsson finished with one shot and a minus-one rating as MODO lost for the second consecutive game. At the 10-game mark, Olofsson leads the team with eight points (3+5), while Possler has netted one goal and one assist. MODO resumes play Tuesday versus Djurgardens IF.
In the QMJHL, Vaclav Karabacek fired a career-high 10 shots on goal as Baie-Comeau was defeated by Charlottetown 5-1. The third-year winger has five points (4+1) in nine appearances for the last-place Drakkar. Next up for Baie-Comeau is Friday night tilt with Chicoutimi.
In WHL action, Brendan Guhle logged a plus-one rating as Prince Albert scored the game's only goal with 14 seconds left in regulation to earn a 1-0 win over Kootenay. The 18-year-old defender has four points and a plus-four rating in four games with the Raiders. Prince Albert is off until Friday when they host Moose Jaw.
Brycen Martin contributed one shot on goal as Saskatoon lost to Brandon 4-1. Martin has nine points (1+8) and a plus-eight rating in eight games. Saskatoon returns to work Tuesday at Edmonton.
Giorgio Estephan (+3) collected a pair of assists to extend his point streak to four games as Lethbridge skated to a 3-1 win over Swift Current. Estephan currently leads all Sabres prospects with 13 points (2+11) through his first eight outings. The Hurricanes will go for their fifth-straight victory when the teams get together for a rematch Friday in Lethbridge.
Devante Stephens finished with a minus-one rating as Kelowna dominated Prince George 6-2. The clubs will complete the home-and-home series Friday in Kelowna.
In the AHL, veteran forwards Phil Varone and Jerry D'Amigo each scored a goal as Rochester lost their second straight in Newfoundland 6-2 to St. John's. Nick Baptiste saw the rebound of his shot buried by Varone, giving him an assist for his first professional point. Andrey Makarov allowed two goals in the first 2:45 of action en route to finishing with 30 saves on 36 shots.
