Anthony Florentino snagged the game-winning goal Friday and added an assist as No. 3 Providence earned a 2-1 victory over Ohio State. Early in the middle period, Florentino stepped into a slap shot that went high blocker side to give the Friars the edge. Providence goes for the sweep on Saturday.
Judd Peterson scored a pair of goals including one while shorthanded as No. 9 St. Cloud State lost 5-2 at Quinnipiac. The sophomore forward made it a 1-0 game at 13:28 of the opening period when he came down the right side and fit a shot in the far side of the net for the shorthanded goal. Early in the second period, Peterson deflected a shot at the edge of the crease to make it 2-0 Huskies before Quinnipiac closed it out with five unanswered goals. Peterson, who also posted a game-high eight shots on goal in the loss, has collected five goals in his first five games to tie for second in the nation entering Saturday's rematch with the Bobcats. St. Cloud defender Will Borgen finished with a minus-two rating and a roughing minor in the loss.
Hudson Fasching notched a goal and an assist as No. 19 Minnesota blanked Northeastern 4-0. Fasching made a difference all game long. He set a power play screen on the Gophers' first tally of the game. He pressed deep and forced a turnover to gain his assist on the second. Late in the third period, he drifted low with his stick on the ice and swatted home a one-timer for his first goal of the year to make it a 4-0 game. The teams play it back on Saturday.
Cal Petersen made 39 saves as Notre Dame played to a 3-3 tie with No. 5 Minnesota-Duluth. Connor Hurley logged a minus-two rating for the Irish, who square off with the Bulldogs in a Saturday night rematch on NBCSN.
Chris Brown produced two shots on goal as Boston College upended Colorado College 3-0. The clubs close the non-conference set on Saturday.
Ivan Chukarov notched one assist as Massachusetts stormed back with four third-period goals to force a 6-6 tie with New Hampshire. The helper, Chukarov's first collegiate point, came as the Minutemen finally caught the Wildcats with 2:40 remaining in regulation. UMass is back at it Friday at Maine.
In the WHL, Brycen Martin picked a corner on the power play for his second goal of the season as Saskatoon came back to earn a 4-3 overtime victory at Kootenay. Martin's marker gives him 10 points in 11 games heading into Saturday's tilt at Medicine Hat.
Giorgio Estephan scored his third goal of the year as Lethbridge extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 overtime victory over Swift Current. Estephan will take a five-game point streak into Saturday's tilt with Edmonton.
Brendan Guhle (+2, 2 SOG) broke the seal with his first goal of the year as Prince Albert cruised past Moose Jaw 7-2. The Raiders continue the grind Sunday at Regina.

In QMJHL play, Vaclav Karabacek gathered six shots on goal as Baie-Comeau was hammered by Chicoutimi 12-1. The Drakkar will hope for a better fate Sunday wen they play a rematch with the Sagueneens.
In the AHL, Cal O'Reilly and Tim Schaller each scored goals as Rochester was blasted by Toronto 8-2. The Marlies were able to put four shots past Nathan Lieuwen before the game was 10 minutes old to set the stage for a long night in Rochester. Justin Bailey notched one assist for his second professional point. The Amerks will need to regroup in time for Sunday's contest with Syrcause.
