12/4 Recap: Fasching pots winner

Hudson Fasching scored the game winning goal at 1:08 of overtime Friday as Minnesota won their Big Ten conference opener 3-2 over Ohio State. Fasching, who slammed in his fifth of the year far side off a one-timer from the right circle, also netted one assist to push his season totals to five goals and 10 points through a dozen games.



In Hockey East, Anthony Florentino one-timed a shot from the point for his fourth goal of the year as No. 1 Providence won 2-1 at No. 16 Merrimack to remain unbeaten. Florentino has goals in two straight games after going without a point in his previous five. The Friars go for the conference sweep Saturday on home ice.

Cal Petersen made 27 saves to guide No. 20 Notre Dame to a 3-1 win over Massachusetts. The victory moves the sophomore to 7-4-4 with a 2.45 GAA and .917 save%. Connor Hurley posted one shot on goal for the winners. Ivan Chukarov logged a minus-two rating for the Minutemen in defeat. The two clubs play it back on Saturday.

Judd Peterson potted his team-leading 10th goal of the year before leaving with an injury, and Will Borgen notched one assist as No. 7 St. Cloud dominated No. 6 Nebraska-Omaha 4-1. The Huskies go for the sweep on Saturday, but they'll have to do it without Peterson. The sophomore left the game after crashing into the boards and will not be back until January.

Sean Malone recorded one shot on goal and a boarding minor as No. 8 Harvard played to a 4-4 tie with Union. Malone, who sat out Harvard's past two contests, has five assists in seven games but hasn't gotten on the scoresheet in his last five.

Jason Kasdorf did not dress as RPI was dealt a 2-1 loss to Dartmouth. The Engineers have lost two straight heading into Saturday's tilt versus Harvard.

Max Willman notched an assist as Brown was defeated by Princeton 4-2. Willman has points in three straight games for the first time in his collegiate career. Brown next battles Quinnipiac on Saturday.

In the OHL, Eric Cornel scored his 15th goal of the year on the power play and added an assist on the overtime winner as Peterborough edged Kingston. 4-3. Cornel has been crushing it of late, scoring a goal in four straight games and eight of his last nine.

Brycen Martin recorded a pair of minor penalties as Everett was shut out by Prince George 3-0.

Brendan Guhle (+2) notched one assist as Prince Albert blanked Lethbridge 2-0. Giorgio Estephan finished the night with a minus-one rating.

Devante Stephens finished with an even rating as Kelowna bested Medicine Hat 5-2.

In Sweden, Jonas Johansson stopped 19 of 20 shots as Almtuna IS was defeated by IF Björklöven 2-1 in a shootout. The decision drops Johansson to 12-11 with a 2.32 GAA and .916 save%.

Gustav Possler (16:08) and Victor Olofsson (11:18) were unable to get going as MODO fell to Lulea HF 2-0. MODO will get another crack at Lulea on home ice when the teams complete the home-and-home series on Saturday.

In the AHL, Nathan Lieuwen made 34 saves as Rochester was rolled by Toronto 4-0. William Nylander and Nikita Soshnikov each potted a pair of goals for the Marlies. Dan Catenacci was responsible for five of the Amerks' 22 shots on goal in the loss.
