St. Cloud State defenseman Will Borgen remains on the Team USA roster for the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship following the release of three players Saturday morning.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the camp thus far, Borgen is one of eight American defensemen fighting for a spot on the final roster as the team heads to Finland to continue training camp. The 24-man roster is expected to be trimmed by one forward and one defenseman on Dec. 24, with tournament action beginning two days later.
Forward Kieffer Bellows (2016), defenseman Casey Fitzgerald, and goaltender Tyler Parsons (2016) were the three players released prior to the team's departure for Finland.
