1/1 Recap: Fashing wires winner; Petersen superb

Hudson Fasching whistled a shot up the gut for the game winning goal Friday as Minnesota edged Connecticut 3-2 in the semifinal of the Mariucci Classic. The power forward now has nine goals and 15 points in 16 games. He currently has a five-game point streak with goals in four of the five games.

In the first semifinal at the Mariucci Classic, Sean Malone picked up one assist to snap his six-game point drought as Harvard smoked Ferris State 7-3. Malone has six helpers in nine games this season entering Saturday's matchup with the Gophers.

Cal Petersen officially made 49 saves and Connor Hurley tucked a shot inside the post for his third goal of the year as Notre Dame and Denver played to a 1-1 tie. Petersen, who displayed his trademark athleticism in making several highlight reel stops, made an additional six saves in the three-on-three overtime (the results are not recorded by the NCAA) prior to Notre Dame winning the shootout. The teams go at it again Saturday night in Denver.

Judd Peterson scored his 11th goal of the year and added an assist as St. Cloud State blew past Arizona State 6-1. The teams will conclude the non-conference set Saturday in St. Cloud.

In the WHL, Brycen Martin scored is first goal since being traded to Everett in the Silvertips' 3-1 win over Kelowna. The power play marker gives Martin 29 points (4+25) in 37 games. Devante Stephens finished with an even rating for the Rockets in the loss.

Brendan Guhle notched one assist as Prince Albert was belted by Saskatoon 6-1. Guhle has 15 points (6+9) through 31 games, including four (3+1) in his last five.

Eric Cornel contributed five shots on goal as Peterborough was defeated by Kingston 5-3. On Thursday, Cornel knocked in two goals, dished one assist and produced a game-high seven shots on goal to earn the game's second star in the Petes' 6-4 loss to Guelph. Cornel has 19 goals and 43 points in 38 games.
