3/11 Recap: Malone propels Crimson; Borgen gets first

Here's your quick trip through the Friday rinks....

In ECAC Tournament quarterfinal action. Sean Malone returned from a three-game absence to score a pair of goals plus an assist for his second three-point game of the season as Harvard downed RPI 5-2 to take game one of the best-of-three series. Malone's big night bumps him up to nine goals and 16 points in 24 contests. Jason Kasdorf allowed four goals on 31 shots before being replaced by Cam Hackett late in the middle frame. The down night puts Kasdorf at 12-12-5 with a 2.30 GAA and .931 save%.

Will Borgen connected on a one-timer for his first collegiate goal as St. Cloud State edged Western Michigan 4-3 in overtime to earn the victory in game one of their NCHC quarterfinal series. Judd Peterson posted five shots on goal for the winning side.

Cal Petersen allowed two goals on 22 shots as Notre Dame dropped game one of their Hockey East quarterfinal with a 3-1 loss to Northeastern. Connor Hurley produced four shots on goal in a lower-line role for the Fighting Irish, who look to even the series Saturday on home ice.

Hudson Fasching earned one assist and four shots on goal as Minnesota fell to Wisconsin 4-3. The helper gives Fasching 19 goals and 36 points in 34 games. With the loss, the Gophers will have to win the Big Ten tournament next weekend to gain entry into the 16-team NCAA tourney field.

Anthony Florentino picked up one shot on goal as Providence earned a 3-1 win over Merrimack in game one of their Hockey East quarterfinal. Florentino has 12 points (5+7) and a plus-15 rating in 28 appearances for the Friars.

Chris Brown received a limited workload as Boston College opened their best-of-three quarterfinal with a 3-0 victory over Vermont.

In the AHL, Justin Bailey secured the game-winning goal with his 11th of the year and Linus Ullmark made 30 saves as Rochester got past Utica 3-1. Eric O'Dell and Chad Ruhwedel also scored for the Amerks, while William Carrier picked up one assist to give him 18 points in his last 18 games.

Vaclav Karaback finished with a minus-one rating and a cross-checking minor as Moncton defeated Halifax 6-2. Karabacek, who entered the night with a three-game goal streak, has captured 16 goals and 27 points in 44 games this season.

In the WHL, Brendan Guhle finished with a minus-one rating in Prince Albert's 4-1 loss at Swift Current. Guhle has scored a career-best 10 goals while totaling 28 points in 60 games.

Giorgio Estephan was blanked for the first time in four games since returning from an ankle injury as Lethbridge throttled Red Deer 6-1. The top line center has 30 goals, 69 points and a plus-29 rating through 55 games.

Devante Stephens notched an assist for just his second point of the 2016 calendar as Kelowna was defeated by Kamloops 4-3 in overtime. Stephens has nine total points (2+7) while playing a shutdown role for the first-place Rockets.

Brycen Martin remained out of the lineup with an upper body injury as Everett fell to Seattle 1-0.
