3/12 Recap: Fasching pots winner; Malone stays hot

Hudson Fasching planted in front of the net and batted home a power-play rebound for his 20th goal of the year and added an assist on an empty-netter as Minnesota closed the Big Ten regular season with a 4-1 win over Wisconsin. Fasching's two-point night, which included a career-best nine shots on goal, gives him 38 points through 35 games. The Gophers have won 19 games this season, with Fasching securing the game-winner in seven of them.

In the ECAC Tournament Quarterfinals, Sean Malone posted his second consecutive three-point night with a goal, his 10th of the year, plus two assists as Harvard ended RPI's season with an 8-2 blowout victory. Malone has scored in four straight games to elevate him to 10 goals and 19 points through 25 outings. In a surprise last-minute move, Jason Kasdorf did not get the start for the Engineers, instead watching as freshman Cam Hackett made 30 saves in defeat. Kasdorf's season ends with a 12-12-5 record, 2.30 GAA and .931 save%.

In a quarterfinal action, Cal Petersen allowed six goals on 34 shots and Connor Hurley notched a pair of assists as Notre Dame was bounced from the Hockey East Tournament with a 6-4 loss to Northeastern. Petersen closes the Hockey East slate with a 19-10-7 record, 2.19 GAA and .928 save%. Hurley's fourth multiple-point effort of the season gives him 18 points (6+12) through 35 games as the Fighting Irish now wait until next Sunday's NCAA Tournament Selection Show to learn their fate.

Chris Brown was unable to record any offensive stats as Boston College dropped a 4-2 decision to Vermont. The two clubs will settle their best-of-three Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinal series Sunday.

Anthony Florentino supplied one shot on goal as Providence swept Merrimack with a 2-0 win to advance to the semifinal round of the Hockey East Tournament.

In the NCHC Tournament Quarterfinals, Will Borgen assisted on an empty-net goal as St. Cloud State swept Western Michigan with a 4-2 triumph. Judd Peterson recorded one shot on goal for the Huskies, who move on to next weekend's NCHC Frozen Faceoff in Minneapolis.

OHL

Eric Cornel recorded one assist as Peterborough was bested by Barrie 5-2. Cornel has points in four straight games to push his season total to 78 (26+52) through 64 appearances as the Petes' captain.

QMJHL

Vaclav Karabacek logged a minus-two rating in Moncton's 4-1 loss to Saint John. The Czech winger, who missed approximately six weeks of the season due to his World Junior tryout and broken thumb, sits with 16 goals and 27 points with two games left on the schedule.

WHL

Giorgio Estephan picked up one assist as Lethbridge was crushed by Red Deer 6-1. Estephan has centered one of the best lines in all of junior hockey to post totals of 30 goals and 40 assists in 56 games.

Brendan Guhle finished with a minus-one rating as Prince Albert edged Swift Current 2-1 in overtime. In 61 games, Guhle has amassed a career-best 10 goals and 28 points.

Devante Stephens picked up an assist for the second game in a row as Kelowna defeated Spokane 6-1. Stephens has operated in a mostly stay-at-home capacity to post 10 points (2+8) and a plus-nine rating through 68 contests.

Brycen Martin remained out of action with an upper-body injury as Everett dropped a 4-1 decision to Tri City.

AHL

William Carrier scored the game-winning goal to give him 19 points in his last 19 games and Justin Bailey remained productive with a goal and an assist as Rochester outlasted Syracuse 7-4. Linus Ullmark made 25 saves to secure the win. Evan Rodrigues and Nick Baptiste (empty-netter) each notched their ninth goal of the year.
