3/18 Recap: Gophers stay alive; Karabacek scores

Here's the Friday cruise:

Hudson Fasching contributed two shots on goal as Minnesota advanced to the Big Ten Championship game with a 4-2 win over Ohio State. The Gophers will square off with rival Michigan Saturday for the conference tournament title and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

In the ECAC Tournament Semifinal, Sean Malone posted a team-high four shots on goal as Harvard edged St. Lawrence 2-1. The Crimson move on to face top-ranked Quinnipiac in Saturday's championship game.

Will Borgen logged a plus-one rating and Judd Peterson added two shots on goal as St. Cloud State doubled Denver 4-2 to move on to face Minnesota-Duluth Saturday for the NCHC Championship.

Elesewhere, Chris Brown moved up to the top line to notch one assist as Boston College came up short in 5-4 loss to Northeastern in the first Hockey East Tournament Semifinal.

Anthony Florentno finished with a minus-one rating as Providence fell to Lowell 2-1 in triple overtime in a Hockey East Tournament Semifinal tilt.

In the QMJHL, Vaclav Karabacek netted a goal and an assist as Moncton was defeated by Halifax 7-4. Karabacek has 17 goals and 29 points through 46 contests. The Wildcats close the regular season schedule Saturday versus Acadie-Bathurst.

In the OHL, Eric Cornel picked up a pair of assists as Peterborough dropped a 5-3 decision to Mississauga. Cornel has 82 points (27+55) in 67 games, a 30-point bump from the 52 he pocketed a season ago.

In WHL action, Giorgio Estephan produced one assist as Lethbridge trounced Medicine Hat 9-3. Estephan has points in six of seven games since returning from injury to boost his season total to 74 (30+44) through 58 outings.

Brendan Guhle supplied three shots on goal as Prince Albert downed Saskatoon 6-4. Guhle has collected 10 goals and 28 points in 63 games with the Raiders.

Devante Stephens finished with a plus-two rating in Kelowna's 5-3 win over Vancouver. The stay-at-home defender has 10 points (2+8) and a plus-nine rating while appearing in all of the Rockets' 71 games.

Defenseman Brycen Martin recorded one assist as Everett was doubled by Victoria 4-2. Martin has six goals and 36 points in 65 games.
