Marcus Davidsson 2016-17 highlights

The Sabres selected LW Marcus Davidsson in the second round with the 37th pick. Davidsson came up through the ranks playing C like so many others, but settled in at the left side as an SHL rookie with Djurgarden IF.

What you see in the highlights is a player that hits the slot with regularity. He does his damage around the net with his stick down. Davidsson does a good job battling low and getting himself space.

The below video captures his five goals and nine points scored this season. The point total was eighth-most among junior aged players in the SHL.

Davidsson #70

The first goal shows him hit the low area and display the sense to back off about a foot or so to give him and better angle to receive the pass to bury the puck high glove.

His second goal continues the trend of him getting to the net and he sneaks low and goes right to the post with his stick for the easy deposit.

The third goal is again Davidsson going to the crease area on a high-low play where he sheds a defender and puts back his own rebound for the marker.

After that, Davidsson pots is fourth of the year by charging to the crease off the faceoff as the low man and second layer of a screen to deflect a point shot underneath the crossbar.

His fifth and final tally shows him battle between the hashmarks with two men on him before getting his stick down to cash the rebound.

The remaining highlights are his helpers, starting with him getting to the goal line and patiently taking a step before sending a return feed to complete a give-and-go to Calle Ridderwall.

He next sends a short pass across the faceoff circle to his brother for the wrist-shot goal.

He earned his third helper of the year by taking a feed in his own zone and alertly identifying an open Jeff Tambellini to spring him for a breakaway goal.

There's a quick highlight mixed among the assists that again shows him in the slot and backing off to give himself more space to accept a feed from beneath the goal line. The chance was thwarted, but it again showed a good example of his low presence.

He capped a two-month point drought in February with his final helper of the year by kicking the puck to the point from the corner for a secondary assist.
