10/1 Recap: Weissbach shines; Mittelstadt ready for opener

Wisconsin freshman Linus Weissbach got his collegiate career off to a nice start Sunday, scoring a pair of goals including the game-winner to lead the Badgers to a 3-2 victory over Michigan Tech.

Weissbach scored a pretty one with his first shot on goal in a Badgers uniform, taking a puck in the left circle and quickly ringing a short-side shot bar-down to put Wisconsin ahead 2-0 at 10:55 of the opening frame.

Weissbach connected again at 14:48 of the middle period when he filled a lane on a two-on-one rush and one-timed a beautiful saucer pass from Ryan Wagner to make it a 3-1 game.

Wisconsin opens B1G conference play Friday against Ohio State.

Elsewhere, Cliff Pu notched a pair of second-period helpers as London fell to Oshawa 5-4. Pu has four assists through four games, but is still looking for his first goal.

In NCAA exhibition action, Casey Mittelstadt showed off his skill with a dominating shift that resulted in a backhand goal at 5:53 of the opening frame and added three third-period helpers as Minnesota downed the University of Alberta 6-2.
