10/6 Recap: Luukkonen rolling; Amerks take opener

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was one measly second from posting his first professional shutout, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Luukkonen stopped 34 shots Friday before allowing a goal at 59:59 as Leki got past RoKi 3-1.

Luukkonen has now won all three of his starts for LeKi, along the way submitting a 1.62 GAA and .948 save%.

In the AHL, Justin Bailey scored twice off a team-high four shots on goal, and Stevie Moses sniped one high blocker for the game-winner as Rochester opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Syracuse.



Linus Ullmark shut the door for over 57 minutes before allowing the only Crunch goal with 2:26 left to play. Ullmark finished with 28 saves to earn the win.

In the collegiate ranks, Casey Mittlestadt made his NCAA regular season debut, threading a quick, cross-crease feed for an assist as Minnesota lost 4-3 in overtime to Minnesota Duluth at the 2017 IceBreaker. The Gophers move on to face Union in Saturday's consolation game.

In the Big Ten conference opener, Linus Weissbach used his speed to gain the zone and earn a primary assist on the game's first goal as Wisconsin fell to Ohio State 3-2. Weissbach will go for point in his first three collegiate tilts when the Badgers and Buckeyes go at it again on Saturday.

Casey Fitzgerald notched the primary assist on the game-tying goal with 4:01 left in regulation as Boston College clawed back to a 1-1 overtime tie with Quinnipiac. Christopher Brown was unable to record a shot on goal for the Eagles while centering the Eagles' top line.

Jacob Bryson recorded three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating as Providence earned a 3-1 road win at Miami.

Philip Nyberg produced one shot on goal and an even rating as Connecticut dropped a 4-3 overtime decision at Maine. Nyberg left the game late in the first period with a lower body injury and did not return. He's expected to miss some time.



Sophomore winger Brett Murray logged a minus-1 rating in fourth-line minutes as Penn State was defeated by Clarkson 2-1.

Ivan Chukarov suffered an upper-body injury over the summer and is out until at least November, so he was obviously absent as Massachusetts lost 5-3 at Arizona State.

In the QMJHL, Vasily Glotov (-2) went without a point for the fifth-straight game as Shawinigan got pounded by Gatineau 7-1.

Cliff Pu (-2) registered four shots on goal as London lost to Sault Ste. Marie 4-1. Pu has played five games with the Knights and is still looking for his first goal.

Defenseman Austin Osmanski logged one shot on goal in Mississauga's 5-4 win over Sudbury.

Vojtech Budik sent three shots on goal as Prince Albert came up short 4-1 against Lethbridge.

In ECHL preseason action, Anthony Florentino connected twice on the power play and Devante Stephens drew assists on both as Cincinnati lost to Wheeling 5-4 in a shootout. Brycen Martin and Jonas Johansson did not dress for the Cyclones.
