The 6'2 defenseman closed the 2010 calendar with six points over a current three-game streak to up his season line to 6-19-25. The Oceanic (20-18-2) will take the weekend off before returning to host Quebec on Tuesday.
Matt MacKenzie (+1) notched an assist as Calgary bested Brandon, 5-2. After netting just three points in his first 13 games, the 6'2 co-captain has connected for 16 in his last 22. The Hitmen (11-24-2), who with the win snapped a three-game losing streak, will start the year on a seven-game road-trip.

In NCAA play, Connor Knapp had a night he'd like to forget, stopping just seven of 11 shots as Miami lost to St. Cloud, 4-3 in the championship game of the Florida College Classic. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Knapp, over which he stopped 62 of 65 shots.
Brad Eidsness did not play as North Dakota posted a 5-0 shutout of Duluth at the US Hockey Hall of Fame game.
On Wednesday, Nick Eno made 22 saves as Bowling Green lost to Princeton, 4-2. As the second goal was scored, a Princeton defender collided with Eno, forcing him to leave the game with a head/neck injury. His status for next weekend's set with Ferris State is unclear as of now.

12/28 Recap: Fienhage gets first; McNabb approaches mark
Corey Fienhage scored his first WHL goal Tuesday and added a pair of assists as Kamloops downed Vancouver, 6-1. The athletic defenseman scored the Blazers final goal of the game when he shot in from the right point and completed a three-way passing play with a sharp wrister. Fienhage looked strong on the puck with well-rested legs from the Christmas break en route to his first multi-point game since April of 2008 when he was with the USHL's Indiana Ice..
Elsewhere, Brayden McNabb scored a pair of goals as Kootenay doubled Medicine Hat, 6-3. McNabb's empty-netter, his seventh goal of the season and 133rd career point, puts him just two points shy of the all-time franchise lead for a defenseman. He is currently tied for seventh in WHL scoring for defensemen with 29 points.

12/18 Recap: Shipley scores in old barn; Eidsness returns
Steven Shipley scored his 10th goal of the year Saturday as Niagara earned a key road win over Owen Sound, 5-2. The game was Shipley's first against his former teammates after a September exchange since him south to St. Catharines. Ryan Strome ('11) scored his 19th of the season for the IceDogs, who will now break until their game against Oshawa on the 29th.
In the WHL, Brayden McNabb extended his point streak to seven games with an assist while earning his second fighting major of the year as Kootenay coughed up a loss to Red Deer, 6-4. The Ice held a 4-1 lead after the opening twenty minutes before allowing the Rebs to shut them out with five unanswered goals the rest of the way. The Kootenay captain was ornery throughout, earning 19 minutes in penalties including five for dropping his gloves with 6'2 Josh Cowen in the second period.
Also from the Dub, Riley Boychuk was -1 with a slashing minor as Portland stumbled against Seattle, 4-2. For the second straight night, the 6'5 forward took a penalty that resulted in a power play goal against.

12/17 Recap: Sutch scores; McNabb extends streak
Gregg Sutch scored his fifth goal of the season Friday as Mississauga clobbered Sudbury, 9-4. Ranked #2 in the most recent CHL rankings, the Majors (27-4-0-1) move on to a Sunday meeting with Kingston. The Wolves were playing without captain Marcus Foligno, who of course will be away for the next three weeks as Team Canada competes for the 2011 World Junior Championship.
Elsewhere in the OHL, Steven Shipley picked up an assist as Niagara destroyed Barrie, 10-0. Shipley, who watched as 13 different teammates collaborated for nine goals before finally checking in with a power play helper at 5:41 of the third period, now has 26 points (9+17) at the 30-game mark.
In the WHL, Brayden McNabb extended his point-streak to six games by picking up an assist as Kootenay shot past Red Deer, 4-1. The steady 6'4 defender has nine points (3+6) over the stretch. The Ice (23-9-1-2) were ranked #8 in this week's CHL rankings.

Sundher, Boychuk producing as quartet departs
Kevin Sundher scored two goals Saturday including one on the penalty kill to lead Chilliwack to a 4-1 win over Medicine Hat. The center now has 11 goals and 33 points through 28 games for the Bruins (15-12-3), including 7+9 in his last ten, and two goals and three assists in three games played this past week.
Riley Boychuk scored his ninth of the year and added an assist as Portland defeated Prince George, 7-4. Boychuk's power play tally tied the game at 2:26 of the third period. Five minutes later he connected Taylor Peters for the game winning goal, allowing him to match Sundher's production with two goals and three assists in the week's three games.
Other than that, it was a pretty mellow Saturday for the Sabres prospects ranks as Zack Kassian, Brayden McNabb, Marcus Foligno, and Mark Pysyk sat out their teams games (all wins) to be in Toronto for the Canadian Selection Camp, while inclement weather knocked three others out of action.

12/4 Recap: Kassian re-Petes; McNabb pours pair as WJC camp looms
Zack Kassian continued his tear through the OHL Saturday, scoring two goals and two assists to lead Windsor to a 7-1 win over Peterborough. Kassian, who began last season as the Petes captain, posted his second four-point game in a week against his former club after a one goal, three assist effort in a 7-2 win last Sunday. He now has three goals and six helpers over his current three-game point streak.
In St. Catharines, Steven Shipley roofed the game winning goal as Niagara defeated Kitchener, 3-1. The power play marker, his ninth of the season, was his second goal in as many games and puts the fourth-rounder on a three-game point streak heading into Thursday's tilt with Canada's top junior club, Mississauga

McNabb was mule as the game wore on, as the minor he served seemed as the only break he received in the final twenty minutes of play. The World Junior hopeful has points in three straight.

12/3 Recap: Pysyk pumps home first; Ship rights ship
Destined to go to Team Canada's Selection Camp with a mark in the goal column, Mark Pysyk tallied his first of the year Friday and added three assists as Edmonton doubled Brandon, 8-4. Pysyk, who netted the first four-point night of his junior career, glided into the zone and filled the net with a wrister at 6:47 of the second period to tie the game 4-4 and essentially open the floodgates for the Oil Kings. Edmonton is now unbeaten in their last five.
Elsewhere, Steve Shipley scored a goal and two assists as Niagara lost a 6-5 road game in Sarnia. Shipley, who had gone six games without scoring a goal, will enter Saturday's meeting with Kitchener toting a two-game point streak. Ryan Strome ('11) produced his second consecutive two-goal game for the winners. The evening featured a total of 17 power plays, including a 7:00 advantage for the Dogs in which they could not score.
Gregg Sutch picked up an assist as Mississauga extended their unbeaten streak to 18 games with a 4-1 win over London. Sutch made a nice feed from behind the net to Rob Flick for his 16th point of the year and a 2-0 Majors lead with 1:40 to play in the opening period.

11/26 Recap: Jokinen first plays trick; Sundher torches 'Hawks
Welcome back.
Justin Jokinen scored his first career hat trick Friday as Minnesota State dumped Lowell, 8-3. Jokinen, who entered the game with three goals in 12 games, broke the seal with two goals in a span of 2:17 in the middle frame before later completing the trick before the period closed to give the Mavericks (3-6-4) a 6-2 lead heading into the final twenty. The junior raises his season goal total to six after posting three in each of his first two seasons in Mankato.
Drew MacKenzie scored his first goal of the season and added an assist as Vermont played to a 2-2 tie with Northeastern. The 6'2 defenseman scored the only goal of the first period when he snuck down for a back-door tip-in after the cycle Catamount forwards wore down the Huskies in their own end. An offensive minded rearguard, MacKenzie didn't score his first goal of last season until late January.

The win was the 21st of Eno's four-year career and 800th in the history of the BGSU men's hockey program. 11/14 Recap: McNabb dominant; Foligno, Kassian to team-up on Russians
Brayden McNabb was a force on Sunday, uncorking three assists and a controlling +5 rating as Kootenay dumped Calgary, 6-2. The 6’4 defenseman now has a goal and 11 assists through eleven WHL contests and looks to be in prime position for an invite to Team Canada’s Selection Camp for the U20 World Juniors. Matt MacKenzie (-3) posted an assist for the Hitmen, who saw their winless skid hit a franchise record twelve games. Entering the game, MacKenzie was one of just two Calgary skaters rated even or better in the +/- column. They are now down to one.

11/13 Recap: Sutch serves apples as Majors roll
Gregg Sutch (+3) dished three assists Saturday as first-place Mississauga bested last-place Barrie, 6-4. With helpers on all three goals by Rob Flick, Sutch now has five points in his last two games and a total of 14 points (3+11) on the season. The Majors (17-2-0-1) are unbeaten in their last eleven games.
In the WHL, Kevin Sundher finished +2 as Chilliwack overcame a two-goal deficit but lost in overtime to Everett, 3-2. Sundher, who earlier took a high-sticking penalty resulting in a Tips power play goal, showed a good burst through the majority of the OT until Ryan Murray ('11) ended it when his shot changed direction with :23 to go. Sundher and the Bruins (10-8-2-0) will return to action on Friday against Tri-City.
Corey Fienhage put forth another steady effort as Kamloops rode a strong second period to a 4-0 shutout win over Kelowna. The Blazer victory halts the Rockets six-game winning streak. The physical Fienhage has clearly benefited from the increased ice-time that the WHL offers. A quarter of the way through his first junior season, the 20-year old rearguard. He's calmer than ever with the puck and looks in control in terms of the pace of the game. Fienhage and the Blazers will play again on Sunday versus Everett.

He's calmer than ever with the puck and looks in control in terms of the pace of the game. Fienhage and the Blazers will play again on Sunday versus Everett.

11/5 Recap: Foligno runs with "C"; Eno spectacular as Falcons soar
In his first game as captain of the Sudbury Wolves, Marcus Foligno had a short-handed goal, an assist, and a Friday night fight as Sudbury downed Plymouth, 6-4. Skating on a line with John McFarland and Mike Lomas, the aggressive forward set an example from start-to-finish despite spending a chunk of time in the box to help the Wolves to their fifth win of the year.
Foligno's hard work paid off when he was sprung by Lomas to bury a short-handed breakaway to give the Wolves a 5-2 lead in the third period. A crisp highlight came as the buzzer sounded to end the first period when the newly appointed leader finished a check and proceeded to deliver a highlight reel pounding to the Whalers' R.J. Mahalak. He received two, five, and ten on the play, but the message was sent and his teammates responded.
I played this video on my phone last night to a bunch of dejected Sabres fans ranting about the team's shortcomings. It drew quite a response, including a 'Mike Tyson's Punch Out' style "body blow!" comment from one riled up spectator.

10/30 Recap: Sundher rising in the west
Kevin Sundher scored a late power play goal and added an assist Saturday as Chilliwack came up short against Medicine Hat, 5-4. The multi-point night, the second in as many nights for the six-footer, ups his season total to eight (3+5) through his first 11 games. Toting three goals in his last four games, Sundher will look to connect on his first three-game point streak of the season Tuesday when the Bruins (8-5-0-0) lace 'em up with Kootenay. Emerson Etem knocked in a hat trick to lead the Tigers.

Brad Eidsness made 14 saves as #8 North Dakota was shutout by #12 Denver, 3-0. The junior allowed two goals on the evening (the third was an empty netter), one off a tic-tac-toe play in the first period and another on a shorthanded breakaway in the second. The contest was marred a ferocious hit by Sioux forward Brad Malone that rendered the recipient, Pioneer Jesse Martin, unconscious on the ice. The Thrashers prospect came-to after being taken off on a stretcher with his future assessment to be performed by the Pio medical team. North Dakota will likley continue their goalie rotation next weekend at Duluth.
Justin Jokinen did not record a point or a shot on net as Minnesota State skated to a 2-2 tie with #16 Alaska-Fairbanks. The junior forward has now game six games without a point after netting three in the Mavs' first two games of the year. Minnesota State moves on to a set with Nebraska-Omaha next weekend.

10/28 Recap: Kassian finds net as Spits down Soo
Zack Kassian scored his sixth goal of the season Thursday as Windsor doubled up Sault Ste. Marie, 4-2. Kassian also connected for his second fight of the season when he tussled with Soo toughguy Dylan King for the second time in as many seasons after smoking a Greyhound along the boards.

10/23 Recap: Foligno remains solid; Sundher finally scores

10/22: Eno gets W; Eidsness yanked
Brad Eidsness had a night he'd like to forget Friday, allowing three goals on five shots and getting the hook just 9:37 in as #2 North Dakota was blown-out at #12 Maine, 7-3. It's unclear if the junior, who was beaten by a rebound and a pair of one-timers, will get the nod when the teams play it back on Saturday.
Nick Eno made 19 saves a Bowling Green eeked out a 5-4 overtime win over Alabama-Huntsville. The victory was Eno's first of the season and 18th of his BGSU career.
Mark Adams finished +1 as Providence was nipped in overtime by Lowell, 5-4. The Friars will move on to face #8 Boston University on Saturday.
Justin Jokinen was even with three shots on goal as Minnesota State edged #19 Colorado College, 5-4. The 6'3 junior drew a penalty when brought down on a 2-1 break, and the Mavs capitalized on the ensuing PP to tie the game 2-2 in the second period.
Connor Knapp looked on as creasemate Cody Reichard stopped 21 shots in #3 Miami's 4-0 shutout of Northern Michigan.

Six Sabres prospects have been named to their respective league rosters for the upcoming Canada-Russia Super Series that will help each country formulate their selection camps for the 2011 World Junior Championships.
Mark Pysyk (WHL), Matt MacKenzie (WHL), and Jerome Gauthier-Leduc (QMJHL) will skate in both games of their leagues' legs of the series, while 19-year olds Zack Kassian (OHL), Marcus Foligno (OHL), and Brayden McNabb (WHL) will each skate in one game due to rules preventing action in four straight days. Kassian and Foligno will both suit up for Team OHL when the series moves to Sudbury on November 15th.
The Series kicks off November 8th in Saint John, New Brunswick.

10/16 Recap: Isackson pots pair as Herd rolls
Christian Isackson scored the first two goals of his USHL career Saturday as Sioux Falls defeated Chicago, 4-1. The six-footer gave the Stampede the only lead they'd need when he hit through a screen at 7:14 of the second period. A little over a minute later, Isackson would strike again from the slot while on the power play to put the Stampede ahead 3-1. Sioux Falls will take a two-game winning streak into next Saturday's meeting at Fargo.
In the OHL, Zack Kassian finished -2 as Windsor was dumped by Plymouth, 4-1. Skating without crafty Alex Khokhlachev ('11), Kassian comes down to earth with zero points for the first time in six games since returning from Buffalo. After serving a two minute minor for drilling Alex Aleardi (did he or did he not leave his feet?), Kassian had a quasi spat with 6'5 Jamie Devane who had earlier made a throat-slash gesture to Kassian while the big Spit was in the penalty box.

10/15 Recap: Shipley, Gauthier-Leduc keep streaks alive
We'll plow our way through a busy Friday recap as I continue to battle a nasty, nasty cold - my first of the season...
Jerome Gauthier-Leduc posted a pair of power play assists Friday as Rimouski came back to edge Cape Breton, 4-3. Gauthier-Leduc, currently ranked sixth among QMJHL dfensemen with 10 points, will take a six-game point streak into Sunday's meeting with Bathurst.

After allowing a point shot through his legs and giving up a second goal on a partial breakaway, Eno kept the Falcons in the game by stopping all 10 shots he faced in the second period. Eno may give way to Andrew Hammond when the two clubs drop the puck on Saturday.
Justin Jokinen finished -2 with three shots on goal as Minnesota State lost on the road at Michigan Tech, 5-2. Jokinen continued to make nifty plays with the puck despite the less-than-savory stat line. The Mavs will press for a split when the teams reconvene for Saturday's series closer.

Shipley and the Dogs will look to stay hot when they host Oshawa on Saturday.

10/13 Recap: JGL heating up; Sundher breaks seal
Jerome Gauthier-Leduc scored his third goal of the year Wednesday as Rimouski lost to Halifax, 5-3. Gauthier-Leduc's marker, his third in as many games, came unassisted at 12:58 of the second period to knot the game 2-2. The 18-year old will look to make it four in a row with a goal on Friday when the Nics travel to Cape Breton.
Also from the Q, Cedrick Henley notched his third goal of the season as Val-d'Or was drilled by Shawinigan, 6-2. The 2010 sixth-rounder added a game-high six hits in the losing effort, while Anton Zlobin ('11) scored two goals for the Cataractes. The Foreurs will look to snap a two-game skid Friday in Drummondville.
In the OHL, Steven Shipley chipped in two assists as Niagara earned a 5-4 road win in Belleville. Sundher began the OT in the box after being whistled for tripping with just :51 remaining in regulation. Once free, he was able to connect with a trailing Ryan Howse (CAL) to snap a four-game point drought since his return from the Sabres.
Matt MacKenzie skated to a +1 as Calgary dumped Portland, 5-1. Riley Boychuk finished the game -1 with two minor penalties and a fighting major for the Winterhawks. Portland's Sven Bartschi ('11) scored his fifth goal in three games and seventh overall. The 6'5 Boychuk was a physical presence from the get-go, earning roughing and kneeing minors in the game before drilling a pair of Hitmen on one shift that led to his first scrap of the season with 6'0 Kyle Schmidt.
