Kennedy given "A"; Comley expects him gone

This week, Rick Comley named Tim Kennedy as an alternate captain for the 2008-09 edition of his Michigan State Spartans. However, the coach did throw a little barb out there regarding Kennedy's future.
Although he was named an alternate captain, Kennedy’s future with the Spartans is uncertain. Comley expects the forward to complete a deal with the Buffalo Sabres in the near future. “I can’t imagine they aren’t going to come to their senses and give him what he deserves,” Comley said. “But if he returned he might be the best player in the country.” If Kennedy leaves, Comley will name another alternate captain.
It appears that Kennedy wants to turn pro, but the haggling point is still the AHL level salary that he would earn. Stay tuned as this story develops. While not being subject to losing his rights until next offseason, the Sabres can exercise patience and time as assets, or they can use the intriguing commodity to sweeten a pending deal to address other needs if there's a hint of acrimony. Kennedy is in that left wing pool with names like Vanek, Hecht, Paille, MacArthur, and Hunter, while Gragnani, Gogulla, and Gerbe could also be tabbed to skate down that side.

I think they will eventually sign him, just good old Sabres negotiating. Enroth needs to be signed by the 1st as well.

I enjoy the site btw.

Thanks. I do think they will sign him as well. The fact that he's a local lad will muddy the PR end of things until both sides find the middle ground.

With Max more than likely going & Stafford's regression, I think Kennedy would be the perfect fit on the Roy & Vanek line eventually.

Stafford's regression? Give the kid some time; he'll be fine.

I'd like to see Kenny and Gerbe on an AHL line together to start the season. Maybe Marzapan in the middle.

Any news on Enroth, Baker? Time's running out, and I'm scared....

You're probably right about Stafford. He was playing better when he was thrown w/ Mair & Kaleta towards the end of last season, but of course doesn't perminantly belong there. I'd like to see Gerbe on a line with Stafford and/or Goose eventually. Those guys wouldn't be afraid to stick up for Gerbe if anyone takes a run at him (Chris Neil). That's a well rounded line, but then again you could experiment with Gerbe on lines 1 or 2.

How far off is Zagrapan from being in the lineup? He's making the rookie max and there are a few players surpassing him and there's probably a few more that might too.
