3/24 Recap: Kea cashes; Lieuwen stops all

Justin Kea scored his first goal of the playoffs Sunday as Saginaw lost a 3-2 heartbreaker in double-overtime at London. Kea stepped out of the penalty box and joined a rush up ice, getting to behind the defense to tip in a Garrett Ross pass to give the Spirit a 1-0 lead. The series shifts to Saginaw on Tuesday with the Knights carrying a two-game lead.


Brady Austin logged a minus-one rating as Belleville was clipped by Mississauga 2-1. The Bulls take a 2-1 series lead into Tuesday’s game three.

In the AHL, Nathan Lieuwen made 39 saves to earn his first AHL win as Rochester pitched a 3-0 of San Antonio. Matt Ellis, Max Legault, and Nick Tarnasky scored for the Amerks, who enter the week in sixth place in the AHL’s Western Conference.

The field for the 2013 NCAA Men’s Hockey Championship was announced Sunday. Wisconsin (Jake McCabe, Brad Navin) will travel to the Northeast to face top-seeded Massachusetts-Lowell on Friday. Minnesota (Christian Isackson) earned the top seed in the West region, setting up a Friday night tilt with Yale.
