Amerks get a look at Jacobs

The Rochester Americans announced Tuesday the signing of Colin Jacobs to an amateur tryout contract (ATO). Jacobs was previously selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Jacobs recently completed his fourth junior season, leading the WHL's Prince George Cougars in scoring with 53 points (25+28) in 66 games while also recording 98 penalty minutes. A threat with the man advantage, Jacobs was tied for 15th in the league with 13 power play goals. The 20-year-old native of Coppell, Texas was rewarded with the team's Player of the Year honors for his his all-around effort.

Jacobs' first post-draft year (2011-12) with the Seattle Thunderbirds was partially washed out after off-season shoulder surgery caused him to miss the first three months of action. He'd finish the year with nine goals and 19 points in 44 games before being dealt to Prince George over the summer.

Jacobs brings a blend of size, grit, and scoring ability to the Amerks roster. He's got a heavy right-handed shot, including an excellent one-timer, and likes to play a physical brand. Jacobs was suspended for six games in 2012-13 after driving his forearm into the head of an opponent, causing the player to miss time with a concussion.

Is Grigorenko back to being a prospect? Don't think I saw anything here regarding his four point night for the Ramparts the other night.

Yes - I covered Grigo's game on the Sabres' site and tweeted the highlights of his 1+3. At some point I decided to kick back and enjoy a beer, so that could explain why it never made it here. It has been a long season with few days off...definitely check out the youtube channel for HD highlights of Grigo. Third assist was beauty.

Kris I saw Jacobs play tonight and was not impressed with lack of grit on the wall vs Syracuse. Girgensens is going to be a solid 2 way player in the NHL in a year or 2. Great poise for a kid and the Amerks best forward tonight. Cory Fienhage really struggles with speed and his passing was awful tonight. Dont see him as a regular in AHL. Alex Biega was the best D for Roch tonight.
