9/21 Recap: Baptiste scores; Petersen wins opener

In Saturday action, Nick Baptiste (-1) scored his first goal of the year four minutes in but Sudbury opened the season by getting throttled by Sault Ste. Marie 10-3. A season ago, the energetic winger went 10 scoreless outings before lighting the lamp. Draft eligible forward Jared McCann paced the Hounds offense with four goals to earn the game's number one star. The Wolves get to stew on the defeat until Friday when they host Barrie.



Brady Austin (-1) registered an assist as Belleville was downed by North Bay 4-1. The massive defender fired a shot from the left point that was tipped in front by David Tomasek ('14) for the Bulls' only goal of the game. Belleville (0-2) will go for their first win of the year Friday when they visit Mississauga.

In the WHL, Logan Nelson was unable to produce as Victoria was defeated by Vancouver 2-1. The Royals begin a two-game series at Spokane on Tuesday.

On opening night in the USHL, Cal Petersen made 26 saves as Waterloo held on for a 3-2 win over Chicago. The Black Hawks are off until Friday when they play their home opener versus Dubuque. Buffalo Regals product Patrick Polino beat Petersen for one of the goals against to earn the game's number two star.

Connor Hurley (+2) picked up two assists and a goal in the shootout as Muskegon picked up the extra point with 5-4 victory over Green Bay. The Lumberjacks, who won in Green Bay for the first time in franchise history, will look to make it a 2-0 start when they bus across state next Friday to take on Team USA.
