1/26 Recap: Baptiste, Grigo light lamp

Nick Baptiste maintained the hot hand Sunday, scoring the game winning goal with 4:48 left in regulation and adding an assist on the empty-netter as Sudbury doubled Barrie 4-2. The multiple point night, his 20th such effort of the season, gives Baptiste 28 goals and 59 points in 47 games. The speedy winger has connected eight times in January after scoring just one goal in the entire month of December. The Wolves are off until Thursday's trip to Barrie.


In the QMJHL, Mikhail Grigorenko (#1 star) scored the game winning goal as Quebec blanked Rouyn-Noranda 3-0. The marker was Grigorenko's third goal in four games since returning from Buffalo. The Remparts host Halifax on Thursday.

In OHL action, Eric Locke (-1) was kept off the score sheet for just the second time in his last dozen games  as Saginaw was defeated by Guelph 4-2. Justin Kea did not play for the Spirit, who get back to work Wednesday vs Sault Ste. Marie.

In ECHL action, Connor Knapp made 26 saves as Florida was defeated by Orlando 3-2. Knapp in winless in his two starts since being re-assigned to the Everblades last week.

Andrey Makarov got his first start since Jan. 8, allowing four goals on 20 shots as Fort Wayne dropped a 4-1 decision to Elmira.
